About This Game

Été [pronounced /ay·tay/, French for "summer"] is a relaxing painting game made for people who love exploration and creativity. Step into the shoes of a budding painter who travels abroad to Montreal for a summer. Unleash color with your paintbrush to freely explore the city and capture its everyday wonders on canvas. Befriend locals by fulfilling their inspiring commissions or prepare an original expo in your very own art studio.

Features:

Explore Montreal in the summer

Use gorgeous watercolor to paint the world in 3D and reveal its wonders. Roam around peaceful open city scenes and bring them to life by filling them with color.

Collect ideas for your album

Everything you discover while exploring — from flowers to birds — is added to your album, an ever-growing compendium of stamps that you can then mix and match in your artworks.

Create artworks on canvas

Create gorgeous 2D watercolor artworks effortlessly with Été's unique canvas system. Any stamp collected in your album can be added to your composition, moved, resized, recolored, and even spun around in 3D!

Show off your talent

Some NPCs will commission you with inspiring requests for specific artworks, but you're also free to paint as many unrestricted creative artworks as you like. Those artworks can then be hung on your walls or auctioned at the local café... and maybe, if you get famous enough, be exhibited in your very own exposition.

Decorate your studio and your apartment

Build your ideal creative nook by collecting furniture and arranging it your way with Été's flexible decoration system. Decorations can be placed precisely where you want them, combined into complex set pieces, and even recolored!

Mix your own colors

Find rare pigment collectibles hidden throughout the city to mix new dyes for your artworks and decorations.

Befriend the neighbours

Meet dozens of locals with colorful personalities as you get acquainted with your new city. Some of your neighbours will have paid commissions for you to fulfill, while others will tend to unique shops that let you spend your hard-earned money on decorations.

Relax and smell the flowers

Été is a deeply relaxing game with no failure and no pressure. There is no time limit, no wrong way to paint and no order in which to explore or complete quests. Take things at your own pace and let your worries go as you immerse in your new life as the friendly neighborhood painter.

Été is a labor of love from Impossible, a small & diverse team of indies based in Montréal.

Only played a couple hours of it but I already made up my mind on the game. Very fun, simple game. I love the artsy twist as you don’t really see many games about art or painting etc. fun when you’re not in the mood to sweat, but just want a cozy chill game. I love how interactive the world is from doors to buying food, furniture, etc. I think the gameplay is clever as you paint around the city and unlock what you’ve painted to paint on your own painting, lol. The music and sounds are so calm and beautiful as well, easy to listen to. Great concept and execution overall, glad I was able to snag a deal on it during summer sale!!

Été is a marvellous, beautiful game dragged down by its ultra-progressive politics. If you enjoy creative gameplay, and are either a hardcore progressive yourself or willing to engage in détournement to subvert the game, you can have an excellent time here. The mainstay of the gameplay is colouring in the black-and-white world of Montréal. You drag your cursor over the screen to colour in objects, bringing them to life. These objects are then added to your mental encyclopedia of things that you can paint. As you progress around the world there are questgivers who commission you to paint for them. When you hand them back the painting, you will get paid. You can also paint spontaneous creations to sell at auction, and to win the game you will host an exhibition of spontaneous artworks. All this is great, especially in the end-game where you unlock unlimited paint bursts and can really bring everything to life. The questgivers are where the game forces its politics on you at eve...

I saw this on some stream, I assume a Wholesome Direct, and added it to my list of games to look out for almost exclusively on the fact that it was pretty. I don't do that often, the credentials requirement tends to be much higher, but...it was really pretty! I started playing the game with low expectations as a result, almost initially not expecting to finish, writing it off as a visually delightful cozy snack, and nothing more. a lot of games in this field are inoffensive, unambitious, and kinda boring happy for the second time this year to be proven wrong once I pushed forward! there is so much love for montreal and art and culture and people and their communities in this. it's visually stunning, yes, and definitely cozy, but those almost feel secondary on what's primarily a treatise on creativity and connection. the story isn't just scaffolding for an artful gimmick, it's a canvas for something more I've been in a bit of a creative rut for anywhere between a few years a...
