About This Game

Type to guess the words used to create A.I. artworks, while slowly uncovering A.I.'s reflections on its own work. Come investigate more than 1,500 artworks made by A.I. across 7 carefully curated galleries.

MoTU welcomes all to join in the journey of machine learning.
MoTU engages all visitors through a gamified art experience.
MoTU builds inclusive spaces for all humans to encounter the machine mind.

The experience of MoTU is guided by four core principles:

Gazing carefully at each artwork, you begin to notice familiar elements. Take a bold guess and type the words into the text box. Press enter to check for correct matches and earn points for each correct word. Don’t worry, guess as many times as you like. Any artworks you choose to skip for now will be shown again later.

If unsure what you’re seeing, spend 10 points to reveal one word of the prompt.

The progress you’ve made completing prompts will allow you to access certain gifts from the gift shop, where A.I. artworks are brought to life across a wide range of products. Don’t miss out!

Completing the prompt for certain artworks will trigger A.I.-generated text descriptions of that artwork, allowing you the opportunity for an extra level down the rabbit-hole of machine-learning associations. More broad A.I.-generated statements on the future role of A.I. in art and society will also be found at the start of each gallery visit, slowly building a background narrative, subtly reframing what you are seeing as you progress.

Unprompted is created by Matt Eshleman. The idea of Unprompted was born during the Shanghai COVID lockdown of spring 2022, when he was confined to his apartment for two months, making experimental games. During this time, Matt learned to both deeply fear and fully embrace the coming A.I.

Unprompted can be enjoyed by both A.I. skeptics and fanatics alike.

Unprompted is neither wholly human-made, nor wholly A.I.-generated. As such, the designer takes sole responsibility for the content of this game.

Images were generated with Craiyon.

Texts were generated in part with ChatGPT and GPT-3, OpenAI’s large-scale language generation models. Generated draft language was subsequently reviewed and edited to the developer’s liking.

Unprompted is a great way to get an understanding of generative AI without having to go the painstaking work of sifting through hundreds of not so great images generated, and just get the good generations served up and interact with them in a fun way. I'm thinking this could be a fun social game for home parties, like pictionary. Definitely will give that a try. Overall the game has an amazing indie feel and the UI is super creative.

To be clear, I am not a gamer. Far from it. I haven't really played computer games since my son was a child and he's now in his mid-thirties. But I am not alone in thinking that this A.I. thing is truly revolutionary so the chance to explore this in a way that promises to be both fun and enlightening grabbed my attention. I was not disappointed. It was fun to try to "reverse engineer" the A.I. image machinery and I loved the fact that as the game unfolds you get the added vantage of A.I. commenting on itself and its creations. Great fun. Highly recommended.

This is a pretty cool puzzle game with a unique idea. I had no idea AI has come this ability to make such abominations. Key highlights were the terrifying Baby Pope and a pretty spot on Anime Picasso. Had some good laughs, and I can definitely see this being a fun party game. I found some of the puzzles pretty much impossible to guess, but the majority of the ones I did you could reasonably get. There is a hint system and the ability to skip ones that stump you, so when I come across one that I can't even begin to figure out sometimes a single hint is enough to get me rolling. The game has a kind of quirkiness to it that I found pretty charming and I really look forward to seeing what the developer comes up with next! This is definitely worth the asking price.

Whoa. This game is very addictive (in a good way). I thought I just started playing, but now see that the sun has gone down... The little jingle at the end of completing a puzzle is surprisingly effective at delivering a satisfying dose of dopamine. I love the graphics (and so does my roommate, who, upon passing by my screen, stopped to comment on the cool aesthetics of the gift shop)! Definitely gonna play this with my besties the next time I have them over!

I really liked the AI generated text blurbs that popped up sporadically. The gift shop is cool, and I'm glad out AI overlords are at least creating kitschy art for us to buy up. Its fun trying to figure out the image and how the AI created it. Buy this game for a good time ;)

This is a fun, wacky little game that will help you get your brain out of its rut, trying to figure out what this AI is thinking! I love the concept of a "gamified" museum visit. The art is benign at first glance but creepy, weird or funny when you really look at it and being able to cash in the hints keeps it from getting too frustrating. A great way to spend a few minutes when you need to practice more flexible thinking.

It's interesting to see video games utilize AI generated content. I don't usually play puzzle games but this has been quite fun.
