PLATiNA :: LAB

Had some time to spare, and wanted to play. Communication errors. Their server is down right now, so I can't play. Great. Why does this purely single player game need always-online DRM? Even their website (platinalab.net) is offline at the moment, and this isn't scheduled maintenance. If this tiny indie company ever disappeared, the game gets vaporized with them. There's a literal dead-man switch in the games that do this. Fantastic game otherwise, with some really awesome songs and fun charts. I'm going to continue to play and enjoy it when their servers ALLOW me to, but they deserve the criticism here.

Very refreshing change of pace to current DJMAX Respect V. Fun and bubbly interface, great songlist, lots to do. Game will boot oddly at first boot, but just close the game and load it again and it should be fine.

This review is covering the game in its Early Access phase. I will adjust it accordingly when the game releases fully. PLATiNA :: LAB is an amazing rhythm game with wonderful gameplay, great song selection (main reason I bought it lol), and immaculate vibes. However, it does have some very important issues as of the Early Access phase. Firstly, the gameplay. The song unlock system has got to be the best in any rhythm game that I've ever played that has one. It encourages you to try new songs and venture outside of your comfort zone and improve, but doesn't force you to, and unlocking the songs doesn't feel too sluggish. You'll have a mission such as getting a certain amount of perfects on a specific song or getting an S rank, or you can just play any three songs in lieu of the mission, so even if you don't want to or can't, you'll still unlock more songs just by playing the game. The charting is also amazing, and makes the game super fun just to play, and is exactly the quality...

Very fun, great mania practice and all the charts are mapped shockingly well. Worth every penny!!

For an indie game in early access game, they have a pretty good selection of songs to choose from, including some well known songs from other rhythm games. The charts are well made and unique, so far... I'm just hoping that the characters in game will have some sort of use later on.
