Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my live review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/gZRbo6N4GiQ I honestly feel bad that I got this for 90% off. These developers deserve the full retail price. This is a magical, unique experience for PCVR. One of the best experiences I have had in VR in 2023 and one of the best artistic experiences I have ever had. It's basically 20 minutes long. It's difficult to describe, but basically it's a stylized artistic interpretation of the changes of the wetlands ecosystem. It's trippy, it's weird, it's experimental, it's just out of this world yet totally within the world. You move around in your room-scale and hear different sounds & notice different things as the environment around you slowly or rapidly changes. It's definitely not for everyone. It's not really a game. It's a contemplative, meditative, zen-like experience. You really have to have the right mindset before starting this experience. All I can say is that after a hard ...

About This Game
Move through rocks, trees and surfaces, which will open up and react to you. Your movement influences the sounds of the work.
Explore, relax and let yourself be immersed.
Key Features
VR: Liminal Lands is VR-only. Players physically move through the environment as shapes, textures and sounds respond. You can explore inside and outside of elements.
Perspective: The viewer begins at human scale, on the salt marshes of Salin de Giraud in Southern France. As players explore the 3D environment, perspectives slowly shift and mutate across plant, animal, and bacterial scales. The artwork meditates on the psychological connection to landscapes.
Sound Design: The generative sound design responds to players' movements, and combines an artistic soundscape with natural recorded material from the local environment.
Fieldwork: Every sound, form and texture in Liminal Lands has been digitized from material gathered by artist Jakob Kudsk Steensen during a year of fieldwork in the Camargue region of southern France in 2021.
Ritualistic Experience: Players can explore morphing elements of the world that are otherwise unexplored, and meditate on the differences in scale between human and geological time as well as the landscape’s biodiversity. The 3D reconstructive technology becomes a sensory tool for a ritualistic environmental experience.
Liminal Lands is one of artist Jakob Kudsk Steensen’s trilogy of immersive works on wetlands and remembering their natural histories. Liminal Lands brings a new, slow sensibility to these otherwise overlooked environments, encouraging players to re-examine their relationship to the ecosystems beneath their feet, and explore the otherwise unseen macro- and microscopic environments of the wetlands.
Liminal Lands was originally commissioned in by the Luma Foundation for the 'Prelude' Exhibition at Luma Arles in 2021. It has been additionally shown at Geneva International Film Festival (2021), the British Film Institute Festival (2021), South by South West (2022), STRP Festival (2023), Doc Aviv (2023), VRHAM (2022), Sonar Festival (2022), Reference Festival x Selfridges (2022) and Strasbourg Festival (2022). The exhibition has shown at Outernet Arts (2023), FMAV Modena (2023), Today Art Museum (2023), SODA Gallery (2022), Nahmad Contemporary (2022), Kornhausforum Bern (2022), and Cube Art Museum (2022).

Way too slow paced. I found myself waiting around wondering if the game was broken or done. I had to give up eventually.
Unique mostly cinematic VR experience with trippy alien atmosphere. It's hard to describe, and screenshots do not convey how it feels in VR. It's only 20 minutes long, but it will be a very memorable 20 minutes. Works on Reverb G2
worn out tech demo, not really relaxing
Played with the Vive Pro 2 How to describe this is a little difficult. I can say this is wild, weird, unique and artistic. I have never seen anything like it. Wonderful VR Experience. You find yourself in a living, breathing world inside a world. Be sure to look inside of objects such as Tree trunks and rocks. You will need some room to do this but not much. Music and sounds are wonderful and are perfect for this creation. I really enjoy this wetlands ecosystem. Thank you for your creation here.
This VR title is a short experience with no real interactive elements besides moving around. I have a 6x6 play area so movement is very limited. All I say is it was kinda eerie with the stereo sounds and shifting environments. I believe it costed 5 dollars or less with a early discount. Experience was about 20 minutes. I did a video with a link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep2bHv2_gPA
Slow paced and looks way worse in the headset. This feels like an experience from 2016. Try "Deepstates" instead. You wont be disappointed.
Nice try. Worth to get for a few euros. Has some nice views, bit slow but the sound makes up for it. Creepy and weird and a bit trippy. It's between zen and spooky.
My review might be slightly biased since I'm already a fan of Jakob Kudsk Steensen's work, which I find mesmerizing in real life. Experiencing his creation through a VR headset, without having seen it in person, is a remarkable experience. This isn't a traditional game; it's more of an audio-visual journey that immerses you in his interpretation of wetlands from your own perspective. Every detail in this experience provokes thought and offers a unique viewpoint. It's a relaxing journey that encourages introspection. The shifting viewpoints continually present new angles, enhancing the experience each time – I absolutely loved it. The investment is minimal, but the return is significant – spending 20 minutes in this virtual world is undoubtedly worth it.
What a wonderful artistic experience. Super weird, which I loved. Pop on a headset and be amazed at going through a morphing landscape. The scale is so beautiful and ever changing. It's a very moving experience. I've got an RTX 3080, it played and looked great. Not sure why others are complaining about the graphics. If you're playing VR, make sure you've got a VR capable rig! Would highly recommend this experience, well worth the $4.
