About This Game

Disminal is a First Person Exploration/Walking Simulator experience set in the backrooms where you will be able to wonder through some of it's unsettling and vacant places, is there an exit to be found? or will you be staying here forever, lost between two worlds.

This game will focus merely on immersion and appreciation of aesthetics.

  • Most zones/sections in the game are greatly influenced by YouTube videos and images depicting liminal spaces

  • Featuring a 'MPEG' mode which graphically mimics the artifacts seen in actual low quality videos so as to enhance the immersion.

I like the atmosphere of this walking sim, this and ambient music can be quite the relaxing experience. A few things I'd like to see added tho would be a sprint mechanic, flashlight and more unique display/video options

If you're a liminal space fan Disminal is basically a must play. It's short, only taking me about 1 hour and 15 minutes to beat, but I got it on sale for $3.59 so that's totally fine. This game is a little on the boring side even for a liminal space game; a lot of maze-like areas, empty rooms and corridors without much variance. This game was at its best with its more interesting areas, some including strange lights and sounds. I also feel like it's a bit too easy to figure out where to go next - sometimes there's even a path on the floor with arrows showing you where to go in the earlier parts of the game. In my opinion it's creepier when it's easy to get lost in a liminal space game, it enhances that feeling of being trapped in a strange place. Still, overall I'd rate Disminal a solid 7 out of 10, definitely recommended for liminal space fans.

The game itself is beautiful, though I haven't gotten very far. I want to explore every part of it but the walking speed is unimaginably slow and there is no running option. I really enjoy playing but I get bored after a while because it feels like I'm crawling through the levels. I really hope that this can be fixed because the levels are so interesting and eerie, I really want to explore them.
