Introduction While Polyfury was having a demo competition I found the game on X/Twitter, because of its Tempest meets Geometry Wars appearance I was intrigued. I joined and came close to winning. I spend about 10 hours on a 90s level :) About Polyfury is a great minimalistic boss rush bullet hell shoot'em up with everything geometrical shaped. The game is all about the bullets, every boss has multiple attack wave patterns and you're not just supposed to avoid them, you're encourage to graze the bullets and the bosses. This racks in bonus points and powers up your laser. There are seven bosses, you can face them all in succession in the Gauntlet or one at a time in Practice mode. Scoring The game is made for score chasing with a leaderboard for the Gauntlet and one for each boss in Practice mode. Score pick ups increase your multiplier maxed at 32x. It slowly drops over time so you have to keep picking up the blue stuff. Timing is also important. When your laser i...

Really fun game! I haven't played many bullet hells before so it was pretty difficult for me to start with but the game did a good job of slowly ramping up the difficulty and I was able to beat all of the bosses in session (albeit with a lot of deaths). Each boss feels really unique and the attack patterns felt fair but never easy. Most of the levels took me 3-5 tries to beat. Also I think there was a different song for each boss which was nice.
Polyfury is a very damn fun and very damn stylish game. Dev certainly knows a thing or two or ten about juice, and even more about shmups.
these shapes got hands
I was able to complete the game in under a few hours of gameplay (length will probably vary a lot based on skill level), but I would consider all of the content to be high quality. There aren't any boring parts with the choice of focusing on boss fights, and there were some creative mechanics that kept the game fresh through all of the bosses. I chose to play with mouse and thought it worked best for fine control.
Very fun little game, offering a unique twist on the control scheme of bullet hells. The content amount is small, especially if you're a veteran, but the scoring system is intricate enough to where you can put many hours after finishing the game into perfecting the scores. So if that sounds interesting, give it a whirl
Fairly straightforward combination of Tempest and bullet hell games. It's quite clever, and does a lot with the premise. I'm a few stages in and there's already a lot of potential for score grinding and pattern memorization, and it feels very produced in a way that a lot of indie danmaku don't. My main criticism is the controls are a little finicky. In most bullet hell games, you can hold a button (usually fire) to slow your character movement, to make weaving the patterns easier. There's none of that here, it's just raw analog stick input, which means you have to be ~extremely~ precise in your thumb movements to properly graze (which gives you bomb and score). Perhaps it's because I'm getting older, but the tension in my thumb started to hurt my hand after a little bit. Still, great game, well worth it, especially for people like me looking for a unique take on some well-trod arcade design.
I love Ikaruga and Super Hexagon, so I'm having a lot of fun with this. Graze Time should be in every game.
I'm so sad this game doesn't get much attention. I think it's a really great homage to older shoot'em'ups while giving a breath of fresh air with the unique movement scheme and beautiful art direction. The game isn't very long, but it's really greatly packed with awesome bosses and cool mechanics all throughout. I think if you either like bullet hells or shoot'em'ups, you'll feel right at home.
Great boss rush game. Simple to play, but hard to get those top scores.
