Chromatic Aberration is a Pixel-Art Action Shooter that tries to be a “Doom Clone” but just falls short of standing out.
Chromatic Aberration touts itself as a single-player action orientated Pixel-Art shooter with fast combat, bullet-hell enemies, and satisfying weapons. It uses a mix of 2D sprites in a 3D environment and says it is inspired by great games such as Doom, Duke3D, Megaman and influenced by an age where there was no “First Person Shooter” but games instead called “Doom clones”. Does Chromatic Aberration have what it takes to be worthy of a classic FPS? Let’s find out! What first drew me to Chromatic Aberration, other than saying it’s a classic FPS, was the graphical choice. I thought it looked pretty interesting from the screenshots and even after I started playing, I enjoyed the graphic style immensely. ...

A run and gun gore shooter at its core with some storytelling elements. You pick up new guns which are better than the previous gun you had and move forward and kill. It's a tried and true model of FPS game and it has its own minecraft-esque graphics which aren't awful. The multiple layers of configuration options while simultaneously having a limited set of things actually configurable are maddening. The camera lean on strafe cannot be disabled and all 3 layers of configuration must be in perfect harmony or the game becomes unplayable. Checking the forums this game has been abandoned by the dev as well so do not expect it to be updated to remedy these issues.
Having played the demo for this game, I've now got my hands on the full release. I've just started a Let's Play over on my Youtube channel, so if anyone's interested, here's the link to the first episode if they'd like to take a look at the product before making a decision on whether to buy or not: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VunllU4LyG8 My thoughts so far: the dev certainly appears to have improved on a couple of mechanics (particularly low mouse sensitivity) that I mentioned when I played the demo, and so far I'm enjoying the game. Sure, there's not a lot to it - but that's what I like. It's simple and straightforward. You run and gun, taking down lots of enemies with a variety of weapons whilst avoiding their return fire. You pick up ammo and health from the surrounding environment, and there are various 2D objects that can be affected by gunfire (EG explosive barrels, dustbins that can be busted open for more ammo, lights that can be shot out, etc). There are friendly and enem...
Solid low-fi old-school FPS. Plenty of chaotic action, a story that gives off strong 80s B-movie vibes, and a really great grimy-yet-colorful 3D pixel-art aesthetic.
EDIT: I don't want to change my review to negative, as I did genuinely enjoy the game. Up to a point it was progressing nicely. I did get stuck at one point and was unable to progress. I think it may have been the final boss, perhaps but I am not sure. Basically, at a certain level, there were just too many enemies to fight, and I ran out of ammunition. So, not a great ending, but fun while it lasted... ORIGINAL REVIEW: For the price this is a fun little game! If you enjoy corridor type shooter games, then this one will suit you. There is even a little story about resistance to some kind of cyber A.I. mastermind. I'm enjoying this thoroughly.
loved bitsturbed, but this just feels off compared to it. it doesnt really convey the same feeling that bitsturbed had. 5/10
Bought it on Steam Sale, but would recommend at full price. Good audio; Stage Music and Shooting Sound Effects Controls well including option to play as a Hybrid Controller/Mouse Mutant which made it extra easier to aim Short game but still got more than my money's worth. Funny writing but might not be everyone's cup of tea
