About This Game

Zero Sum Future is a fast paced, competitive multiplayer colony building simulator. Explore new worlds, build your economic empire, and clash with other players across a procedurally generated solar system with endless variations!

BUILD

In every game, explore different worlds and build them up from a selection of 29 buildings. Slowly expand your empire to trade with the local population and amass a vast fortune.

COMPETE

Zero Sum Future is designed to be played in a 4 player free-for-all, winner-takes-all format. Fight with your opponents for the best plots of land, steal their buildings, and force them out of the market by trading goods at a greater volume then they can. Watch as they run out of cash and get forced out of the game, and then add the ruins of their empire to your own!

LIE

In Zero Sum Future, everything may appear completely harmless and legal, but don't let that fool you. Certain buildings have Illegal variants that completely break the rules and provide their owner with a massive advantage: For example, while a Hospital might attract injured people and net you a clean profit, an ILLEGAL Hospital will kill those patients and take all their money and add them to your bank account.

In Zero Sum Future, you can only win if you master the art of sneaking in illegal buildings and can spot those placed by your competition.

ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES

Because Zero Sum Future doesn't stop you from doing anything you want, the possibilities are endless. Do you want slowly replace a large portion of your human workforce with robots? Force-feed your colonists junk food and watch them swarm your hospitals with heart conditions? Bribe the central government to only allow you to trade on a certain planet? Establish a workforce planet with lousy living conditions but cheap labor?

And establish dominance over your friends in the process?

Only in Zero Sum Future.

Right off the bat, this is a fairly niche game, and I made the mistake of only doing one or 2 of the tutorial, scenarios, I guess I would call them, before deciding that I could hop right in. That wasn't really a wise decision, but it kind of gave me a general idea of how things worked so that I could play around a little more, and I failed. The next thing I did was hop into another tutorial and voila, I had to do be doing something right or else I wouldn't get to the next bits. Once I got there, I could manage. Pros: +It's a different concept. Imagine a RTS style, but without raising an army, and with having to balance needs, kind of like a SimCity, or Civ game. +It's fast paced; you see the effects from your actions pretty much immediately. +Game world seeding. +Once you learn how it works, you can jump right in. Cons: -The GUI isn't really the best when you're starting out. You adapt to it and learn where things are really quickly, and what to watch for. Other thoughts: There's n...

These are my first impressions after 2 hours also known as The Point of No Refund. PROS: + Space capitalism is perhaps even more cruel and brutal than direct conflict seen in classic RTS :) I really like the core idea and the name is incredibly fitting. + Planets have rather intersting terrain as opposed to being boring spheres. This adds to challenge of efficiently placing buildings. + Being able to see others planets in the sky of your world is really awesome! + Game is fast paced, yay \o/ I didn't play a real human game yet, but expansion is fast and so is the end when you run out of money. + Multiplayer focus. I yet have to test netcodez, but I look forward to playing this with my friends one day. + Devs are active on discord. They fixed a crash I hit on the same day and they seemed eager to receive feedback. + First update since I own the game brought some visible improvements. Progress detected. + Tutorial isn't perfect but it's there and it explained the ga...
