This game was pretty fun, but only for about an hour. Unlocks took a bit too long to unlock. I was already bored of my existing weapons by the time I got the new ones. The game lacks any real ability to bring yourself back from poor performance so it misses out on the rush of a comeback that games like Crawl do so well. Surviving a level was always overshadowed by "well now my health is low for the next level." The sheer amount of enemies can be a little overwhelming so I always ended up missing the enemies that really mattered until it was too late, which would be forgiveable if all punishments didn't hurt your entire run. I also may have been missing enemies because the camera is not centered on the player, but enemies can still come from the short side of the screen which gives them an arbitrary advantage. Ultimately it just ended up feeling like a slow crawl towards inevitable death and that crawl didn't feel particularly engaging.

AIPD is a fun arcade-like shooter game that benefits more from playing the game with local friends. The gameplay is straight forward enough for players to into the game quick while having a fair amount of customizing options to make each game session different. The weapons and mods you unlock have different strengths/weaknesses, allow players to try out different methods on how to play throught the various levels. Each time you beat a level, you must choose a challenge which will carry over to the other rounds, which makes for some chaotic fun for you and your friends. However, if you play the game by yourself, the game will get boring pretty quick, especially since you can unlock everything within 2-3 hours. But if you got friends that want simple fun with easy to learn gameplay, AIPD is worth giving a shot. Rating: B

The game has nice graphics, but it's simply not fun. It's extremely repetitive, even for a bullet hell type of game, and controller support is mediocre. The menus use a virtual cursor mouse which is big red flag, and in game it simply doesn't feel right. You also need a mouse for the installation process. Not recommended.

SUMMARY: This is primarily a "MIXED" review, with a recommendation to buy the game only if it's on sale. AIPD is a relatively enjoyable twin-stick shooter that should appeal to anybody who liked Geometry Wars. However, it is not a perfect game, nor is it a long game. Additionally, there are numerous features that could stand to be improved. As a result, I really can't recommend the game at full (US $9.99) price--if you like twin-stick shooters, it might be worth it when it's 60-80% off. With a name like "Artificial Intelligence Police Department", you might expect something of a plot. But there really isn't one. Each game starts in the same circular "arena", and you're immediately tasked with killing everything that moves. When a round is completed, you arrive at a screen where you must choose between one of two randomly selected "modules." Modules are negative modifiers that typically make life harder for you (i.e., touching the border of the arena now hurts...

I wholeheartedly support this videogame. I have appreciated potential audience to this notice about the extreme limitations of your simulation software, and why I am only infrequently active. I will occasionally play your Asteroids-tier simulation for a span of 10 minutes, to handle the random mobs. Officially, I am requesting AIPD groups for display, and I have awesome badges that I am not "really" permitted advertisement on my profile. I love the theme of this simulation-software, which for me is a glorified version/emulation of the famous Atari videogame, yet with massively greater features and functionality. At the point of writing this review, it has been approximately 90 hours of play, per SteamPowered.com listings, with 10 minute bursts of activity. These days I drop in for 1-3 minutes to handle fine-motor control functionality, with a better interest and desire for combat-specialisation simulations. I am constantly handling "gamers-thumb" after barely any play, due to the rando...
AIPD is a fantastic little game with sadly not enough content to sustain enduring appeal.
It looks and sounds remarkable, with very smooth and immediately enjoyable controls. The game shows a much more manageable pace and difficulty curve than many comparable titles, with arguably better visuals and gameplay. AIPD plays mostly as you would expect of a twin-stick shooter. Conserve your energy and move wisely as you destroy unlimited waves of increasingly diversified and multitudinous enemies until you inevitably perish. Unlock upgrades, tweak your ship and weapon configuration, launch again. There's nothing to seriously dislike about it, except that you'll burn through its content in less than two hours. Once you've perfected your arsenal configuration, you're left with chasing high scores as sole motivator to keep playing. No health regen or pickups of any kind also make mistakes i...

So, way back when I purchased this game.. I logged in a total of 0.2 hours (12 mins.) and suddenly I get an error at start-up with a specific virus warning. I've tried the Steam fix and to install and re-install on multiple number of computers to the same futile result. Messaging the devs returned only silence.. and not only is it unplayable, but it's planting a virus.. WTF??!!!

Just the kind of bullethell-ish twin stick action I can get behind with the right balance between challenge, pulse-pounding action, and booty blasting fun
