About This Game

You are an android. Almost a thousand years of age, you’ve seen more wars and fought more battles than any human ever could. Your experience will soon be called upon, as you battle an ancient monster and fight to preserve the Solar System…or whatever else you hold dear.

Saturnine is an interactive novel by Jon Matthieu where your choices control the story. It's almost entirely text-based, with 700,000 words and hundreds of choices, fueled by the vast power of your imagination.

It is the year 990 AC. Earth is dead, forever claimed by the Calamity. Stars are unreachable, forever denied to human ambition. Only in the vastness of the Solar System humanity still survives, spiting the sentient machines that once tried to destroy it. Artificial Intelligence, a tool once used to shape space itself to human liking, is now an object of fear and a target of ceaseless hunts on every moon of every planet. You are a dying breed, though you’re determined to survive all the same.

You’ve spent almost a thousand years on the run, an android among humans, a machine among creatures of flesh. You’ve recently found a safe haven, perhaps even a family, on a nigh-forgotten Saturnian station. During a heist launched on behalf of your group, you encounter a group of meta-humans who pose great danger to you and your friends… but also present a unique opportunity.

• Play as male, female, or nonbinary—or abandon silly human notions of sex and gender.

• Travel around Saturn and its various moons, in a setting where every location is based on an existing astronomical object.

• Fight superhuman foes with your advanced weaponry, powerful fists, silver tongue, or the lightning dancing between your fingers.

• Romance one of your robotic friends—or perhaps one of your quasi-human pursuers.

• Determine your place, goals, and values in the bizarre world 1207 years into our future.

• Reconcile with humanity and forgive past wrongs…or embrace your hatred as part of you.

Just what kind of android will you be?

Saturnine is easily one of the best new releases I’ve played in a long time. I first tried it back when it was still a work in progress, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Set in a world similar to ours but far into the future, Saturnine puts you in the role of one of the oldest androids still functioning, struggling to survive alongside other outcasts like yourself The choices in the game are excellent, and player agency is top-notch. Don’t want to do something? You can just say “f*ck it all,” and the story will take a different direction—not just “oh no, you failed, you have to start again.”

While I do recommend it, it's only because I paid 5 bucks for it, any more and it wouldn't be worth a rec. The world building is decent enough but it's suffering from a serious lack of writing experience, some characters are rather flashed out, others you get to know basically nothing about even when they are ROs. This is one of those IFs that encourages you to flirt and pick a love interest pretty much right after meeting them, with no build up at all, even when the only other interaction you had with them was a brutal fight that could have ended in death. Many of the choices are downright childish. You are thousands of years old, the game has serious topics, how that fits in with how often you can pick “smelly humans” and similar elementary school level responses is beyond me. The writing is casual at best as a whole, with weird changes in characterization that will give you whiplash just so certain plot points can happen. Don't expect a masterpiece or professional writing, i...

A woke game. Your character is trans. The big bad is a white bussiness man. And all your allies are black victems of racism. It still a decent game but if you are sensative to woke you wont be able to ignore the politic's shoved into it.

The first person I met, the game gave me a variety of options for what to say to him. But I also had the opportunity to say nothing and just kick him in the groin. That is an excellent start. Then I ran into some space cops. Obviously talking to the police is a bad idea so I didn't select any of the dialog options, I kept my mouth shut. The cops said something that sounded like "Oink oink oink squeal" so then, I started blasting. A little while later I met Olivia, who instantly became one of my favorite characters in anything I've ever read. I do have a few issues with this story, mostly having to do with tone and some story beats that were jarring to me. Without going into detail, the fascist space cops really do prove that ACAB holds true even in the distant future, and it's weird that the MC gets railroaded into allying with them. There's also [spoiler]a strange conversation with an author self-insert as the V'ger probe. Just some odd decisions by the author. I wish I could say ...

I've played this over and over again when the forum demo was up. It's a great piece of science-fantasy fiction with really cool worldbuilding, characters I've found pretty interesting and compelling, and I've found most of the dry humor the book seems to go for alot landed for me. I consider this one of the best COG titles hosted or directly published and very strongly recommend everyone to at the very least give the demo a try. (Also I love Hadaly so much she's a joy to read)

Saturnine is a fun choose-your-own adventure story with rich world building, interesting themes, excellent humor and references and more than a bit of heart to it. As in, I was heartbroken by the endings I managed to achieve. With many routes I haven't explored yet, I thoroughly recommend it.

Don't mind my pitiful two hours, I have played longer during the demo so I speedran the game My review: You can play as AM from I Have No Mouth and I must Scream and get 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 with a spider. BTW AM stands for A(ctually) M(iku), so you can also play as Miku That's all you need to know (Satur)nine out of ten stars.

Fascinating setting and well written! The various characters all seem like very quirky but believable people and the tale takes interesting twists. While a bit more linear than I'd enjoy, it nonetheless offers paths to choose from and a lot of reactivity in the relationships you can have with other people. I've been looking forward to this since I played the pre-release version in the forums, and it's been improved massively since then, (which isn't a given).

As an anti-Nexite and a Mordin fan, this game was great! Really cool setting/lore, characters, etc. The interweaving of different fantasy and sci-fi elements is pretty nuts and really well done. There are great comedic moments, heavy/sad moments, sweet moments, etc. that are all enjoyable. I'm glad I played it, and I hope to see more of this wonderful madness in the future!
