I came across this game through "A Happy Place Deep Dive (...)" by the youtuber "Doctor Dirck's Lore and Let's Plays" of which not even 20 minutes in I knew I was interested and went to buy the game proceeding to do as much as I could within the next few days. I have been a fan of 3D platformers for a long while and have played a good few from across the spectrum of quality and I will say right now despite a few set backs I do recommend "A Happy Place" and feel it was worth getting! The game is fun to jump around and perform its movement abilities, of which interestingly 1 uses a relatively easy to find resource (the same is used for a sadly kind of useless attack range extension on your slap move), after 100+% completion of one of its collectibles the resource becomes infinite but before that its an interesting game design decision as you end up trying to economize a pretty useful move (again its not that hard to get more of it, but its still a decision I do enjoy over all). NOTE: I haven't finished playing the game for myself, but I have seen an 100% playthrough of the game. A wonderful platformer horror game with a fun and unique story. I know the steam page looks rather unassuming, but don't be fooled, this has a lot more going on than you may presume! My only issues with it are these 3 things. - It's a bit choppy, just minor hiccups here and there, but I feel like this is either on my PC or due to it being a Blender game engine game. It's not bad enough to be an issue however. - Jumping out of water feels a bit cumbersome, but it's not much different to SM64 in that regard. - I wish you could put it into a windowed mode. Though the pros much outweigh the cons. Please check this out if you got the money and it interests you!
Currently I can't recommend the game but that's probably just because I played on my Steam Deck which sucks because I love the world building and storyline by the time I got stuck by the second world's purple crystal which gets you stuck on a black screen. I tried to enter the crystal twice and both times it went to black with the health icon still on the screen and music playing so I knew I didn't get a black screen of death and on that note, that was the first time that ever happened to me on the Steam Deck was this game and after the monster eats you at the end of world 1, making me miss the rest of the cutscene after rebooting the system. Also it's a game with animal characters but so far no furry women which of course, is a nitpick but I will subtracting points from the game's total score, of which will be kept hidden because I am very shy and eat glue on rare occasions. This is a dumb idea but I kept wanting to have some type of run button or a crouch dash/hop like how Ultrakill...
ok so just as a disclaimer I had the gamejolt version way back and now i have this copy on steam because of moving pcs etc etc. This game is FANTASTIC! a happy place is a psychological horror which actually focus's on good platforming which is such a fresh breath of air. the horrors great, the controls/platforming is great and i wont spoil much plot wise as its a pretty good sci-fi story. Id really recommend this game if you like games like crow 64 or shipwrecked 64 but aren't really a fan of intense puzzle solving and just want neat horror.
