Merana and the Cubewalker

Merana and the Cubewalker combines the well-known Rubik's Cube with a story-driven puzzle platformer world. Discover other sides of the world, unlock new areas and meet new creatures. Are you ready for a new puzzle adventure experience?

The primary core element is the cube. The Cube is a 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube that can be rotated in all directions. By rotating it, surfaces move to new positions in different ways.

The aim of the game is to uncover all the areas at some point. Firstly, undiscovered areas are marked on the map, then you are confronted with puzzles. Over time, the puzzles become more difficult as more and more areas become available.

There are several approaches to solving a puzzle. Instead of completing a level one by one, the player has the choice of which puzzle to tackle. A kind of network system in which everyone has the same goal but approaches it differently.

It is not necessary to understand the Rubik’s cube, but to create new paths by trying things out. A reset button allows the cube to be turned back to its original position, so there’s no need to worry about messing up.

Everything in the game has been hand-painted - from the floor to the smallest details. My aim is for each room to be its own painted picture. Because the light and shadows are not calculated, the game is very small in size and does not require much power.

The world is a fantasy natural spectacle without skyscrapers and advanced technology. Each side will have its own biome with new challenges, just like a real Rubik’s cube with its colours.

Many years ago, in a village in the middle of the forest, there was a person called Merana. Merana - who was known for her kindness and her thirst for discovery - was unaware of her long journey when she came across an ancient artefact. 

A cube that was very special. Little did she know that this cube had the power to change our world. With the very first turn of the cube the landscape around her changed and revealed new paths. She came across us and we never saw her before - as a ‘human’ she called it. Some of us asked her for small things, if she could take them to the other sides or search for something. 

Guided by her compassion and the desire for harmony in the world, Merana embarked on several journeys and new challenges. Some mistrusted her and the cube - a power to separate cultures - but Merana used this power to help and restore balance where chaos reigned. She became known as the ‘Cubewalker’.
