Very hard game but super rewarding every time I completed a level, could not stop playing. The treat at the end was definitely worth it.

About This Game
and not to die."
~ Sumiii
Sumiii is a punishing swimming game, a homage to Jeremy Winterrowd's 2003 game 'The Maze', better and more fondly remembered as the 'Scary Maze Game'. Sumiii is also a remake of my first attempt at developing a game 'Crazy Aems game'. You can't move diagonal, and everything kills you. New and strange creatures await the squid capable of advancing to the next level.

Good

At some point I may begin work towards radically changing this game into another genre, but before that happens I'm going to add:
- achievements
- a multiplayer mode
A Note From the Developer:

I’ll do my best to get back to you as quickly as possible and provide support if needed. Also let me know if you enjoyed the game, because that makes my day and motivates my future projects!

Interesting how the momentum works in this game, but the tagline is correct: everything will kill you. Everything. Also, they show you how many deaths you have on the menu screen, which is kind of demoralizing. I went from 6 deaths to 56 deaths in no time. This isn't a bad game, but it isn't that great either.
Sumiii is a difficult game that tries the player's emotions in the same vein as something like Getting Over It. However, in the same way that Getting Over It can be extremely fun despite it's brutality, there is a lot of fun to be had in Sumiii, and a skilled player will ultimately get the most out of the game. I play it on my Steam Deck, and I can't stop coming back to try and beat that level I've been stuck on! The Gameplay asks you to make tight turns through often slim corridors, and the character you control (Sumiii) will flail it's tentacles about as you make these turns. Luckily, Sumiii is very responsive and the movement is very consistent. You have to learn how far your tentacles will spread with a turn, you get a feel for just how wide your turns are and how quickly you need to react to an oncoming obstacle. There are quirks in collision, like the ends of your tentacles have a bit wider of a hitbox then you would expect, but it's consistent. If you account for it then you ha...
This game is so amazing. I currently have a 10 Min 27 Sec for my speedrun time, but I will get it lower and lower. Thank you so much for this gift of a game, I hope the speedrunning scene for this game gets bigger so I have more competition. This game is difficult but with enough practice you can manipulate sumiii to your desires and never have a frustrating death again. complete skill based game, can't beat it? skill issue and get good. 9/10, last level is still bullshit lmao
Kinda easy, but very good, it's worth it to get to the end credits
This game is pretty nice, but something I think would improve this game is if you didn't slowly float down to the ground when moving left or right. If there was an option to turn that off, that would be nice. also maybe tweak the hitboxes? In fact, how about multiple game difficulties that would adjust the player character's speed? (Slow for easy, default speed for normal, super fast for hard) However, my biggest issue with the game is NOT the gameplay. it's that bizarre AI generated image of the protagonist that you see every time you die. Something about it really bothers me. Maybe use a different AI generated image? I certainly admire your passion, an there is a lot about this game I like, and I'm hoping that it'll evolve into something truly magnificent. Good look with this project.
Sh*t a** rage game. Unique idea, I'll admit that, but goddamn if the level design and hitboxes aren't awful... Level 1 - Fine. Nice little tutorial. Level 2 - Fine. Level 3 - Ending is WAY too luck based with how narrow it is. Level 4 - Gets way too luck based after the midway point as you never really know how fast EXACTLY you need to react to key presses. Level 5 - First end to the first third messes with your head a bit (since when you're holding a directional key, the stupid fish never goes that way if you're still holding it after pressing and releasing another key, if that makes sense... e.g. you're holding right, you press up whilst still holding right, release up whilst still holding right, and the dumb fish still goes up since the key you're holding doesn't register lol). Level 6 - Not sure why you decided to make this level free, since all you have to do is spam up for the speed boosts, but ok. Level 7 - This is where I gave up, the very start is so f**king ridiculously ...
