While the game is fun for the first few hours, you start to notice its shallowness after a while. Making a comparison with Risk of Rain 2: • The cast of characters don't feel that unique, especially the melee characters. • The items don't have the oomph RoR's have. None are run-changing, all of them feel rather "meh". • The unlock system feels sluggish compared to RoR's: You need to unlock the item, pay for it, then pay again if you want to ban it for the run. • The mobility is awkward, you get stuck in groups of enemies a lot, which is very frustrating. Overall, this game lacks the grip RoR and other roguelikes/lites have. I don't particularly feel the same urge to play multiple runs.

Update 1.0 Review Pros: - Fun an enjoyable loop - Plenty of things to farm and collect - Many different maps - Multiplayer friendly - Great art style and mob designs - Challenging bosses Cons: - Some of the enemies are still a bit too tanky when at the same level as characters "mainly those damn crabs" - Mobs can get a bit repetitive rn - Some skills need a few buffs to compete - No cancel button after pressing ready - Not a lot of screen visibility in later stages, a setting for this would be helpful - Base attack % seems really weak atm and skill cool down seems a bit too uncommon compared to flat damage, speed, and atk speed Overall, if you've ever played games like Hades or Risk of rain, then youll have a blast with this little gem of a game. Devs seem to be paying attention to feedback quite frequently so I hope this game succeeds with plenty of future content and dlc.

If you like Risk of Rain 2, you'll like this game. It's basically a top down version of that. character skills are pretty unique which is nice. That said, until there is a feature that allows you to continue run if you crash, this is going to be a negative review. Tired of crashing and having to restart after having 1-2 hour runs.

isometric risk of rain is pretty fun but... already had three different runs stop short (iincluding an hour long one) because of a bug that prevents me from interacting with anything in the emporium. Fix the bug please and thank you

After 1 run, I can pretty safely say the reviews quoting damage sponges and difficulty being too high are not really accurate. Maybe this was the case before 1.0? But while playing I actually had the opposite issue. I actually really like this game so far, it's got a wide variety of cool items, a lot of meta progression, and a cool premise with the way the final boss works. The ability to recycle items into another at specific crafting stations is very neat. My biggest complaint really is that enemy and objective variety is just a bit low. The enemies are fun, and the objectives do their purpose, but I am not sure how much mileage you can get from what is there. If this was priced anywhere higher it'd be hard to recommend, but for the low asking price it's honestly probably worth it.

Hello guys, i have played Gatekeeper for 40 hours before 1.0 before this review. The game is too awful right now to play (I lost as well my save. even with achievements, i can't access to some items i've paid with in-game currency). Many changes have been made during 1.0, it's just frustrating. Everything you could enhance is now exhausting players. I can't even find a single mecanic which is giving me joy, it's only pain For context: it's a roguelike where if you lack a dash and get surrounded... all you can do is pray. Some enemies feel like pure stat checks. Without enough HP, teleporting foes one-shot you. Without enough movement speed, you can't escape rushing mobs (one Zone 4 elite can double-tap you before reaction - unless you're fast/lucky enough to stun it). Why implement a fake pause during item selection? For new players needing to read, it's punishing. Either make it a true pause or remove the slowdown (like co-op). This half-measure has made me take damage while pla...

Great game held back by punishing artifact system Gatekeeper scratches that Risk of Rain itch really well — fast-paced action, fun builds, and a great downtime level between stages that lets you catch your breath. But the artifact unlocking/exclusion system is where the game falls apart. Unlocking artifacts adds randomness to your runs, and while variety can be fun, some artifacts are far stronger than others. The more artifacts in the pool, the harder it is to stick to a build or strategy. Instead of feeling rewarded for unlocking more, you often feel punished. Yes, there’s an artifact exclusion system to counter this… but it costs 3 coins per item per run. With how few coins you earn from failed runs, that cost is absurdly high. It makes experimenting with builds frustrating instead of fun. If the artifact exclusion mechanic were more forgiving, I’d happily change this review to positive — because under this system’s frustration, there’s a fantastic game waiting to ...

Game is awesome, it's Risk Of Rain but isometric! The only thing I want to ask of developers is to add the ability to reconnect during a run. Sometimes my friend got suddenly disconnected and lose out on an achievement or a character unlock because of it. And because runs can easily get to an hour in length it's very frustrating

this game is quite fun, similar to ror2 but it has the upside of gearbox not getting to ruin it with stupid AAA related decision decisions which is fantastic.
