About This Game

BOOTS QUEST is a low-key, offbeat adventure about traveling to the ends of the earth in search of the Best Boots. Guide a hapless young boot enthusiast through a compact open world full of gremlins, dragons, seagulls, wizards, and weird folks of all sorts. Solve puzzles! Collect items! Help out the locals with their problems! Don an increasingly confusing selection of headwear! Explore caves, tropical islands, snowy wastes, and strange realms of the mind that defy comprehension! There's a jump button! You might even learn a little something about what life is all about... fine footwear.

BOOTS QUEST is a fairly short game for players who just want to enjoy the story (~2-3 hours), but for players who want to complete all the quests and track down all the secrets, it could take a lot longer. True bootheads should be sure to stick around for New Game+ mode...

Note: I played a pre-release version of this so my time isn't accurate. Tho I intend to replay it soon to see all the new things! Boots Quest DX is a good-natured comedy-adventure with a OST full of warm saturated 4-track-psychedelia tunes. The writing and music are of such quality that I recommend it on those two elements alone. The challenge lies in learning the layout of the map map (yes, you get a worldmap!), familiarizing yourself with lore, and light adventure gamey puzzling. There aren't really fail states but there ARE interesting bits of actual interaction. It's more substantial than your average short form visual novel. I'll update this review when I'm able to circle around and play the full release - but even my beta version was fantastic. 8/8 Boots. UPDATE: Ok I finished the game. Same thoughts! I enjoyed the ending area immensely.

I've been a big fan of Harrison Lemke's music, and now I can also say I'm a big fan of his computer games.

An extremely charming game about the longing in all our hearts for rugged footwear. Charming characters with clever dialog and some astute observations, too. Haven't finished yet but I can already recommend. Edit: Just finished and my recommendation still stands. Lot of heart went into this and it shows.

A deceptively addicting and diverting little story game. The fundamental "adventure" is short and sweet and can be finished in a couple hours, but there are enough secrets and optional puzzles to keep the game fun a good deal longer. The whole tone is witty and distinctive, and the characters are deeply funny. Highly recommended!

Boots Quest DX does something that a lot of good games do: it operates on no logic other than its own. It starts out with pleasant music and charming writing and will make you chuckle, or at the very least smile. And slowly, as you uncover more of its world, you'll piece together how it works. It's a great feeling, and Boots Quest DX elicits it with a surprising sense of ease. The puzzles here are reminiscent of point and click games, and the moon logic they often operate on. Especially considering that there's a few actions you can take that various NPCs each have their own unique response to. That's not to say that they feel illogical or unfair to solve. Things just click in place, without feeling too easy or too challenging, or like you're ever truly solving a puzzle. You're just exploring this little world and gaining more understanding of it as you go. Another aspect I liked was that the game feels like it has something to say. But unlike a lot of other games, it's content to s...

DISCLAIMER: I am also an extreme boots enthusiast. My thoughts following are scrutinizing from that perspective. Boots Quest DX is a game primarily about 2 things: 1. Boots, and 2. the nature of joy and fascination. If you do not love boots before playing, you will love boots by the time youre done, you either start with the Boots Quest in your blood or you inherit and adopt it along the way. Its contagious, sincere, admirable. But even when the game is not about Boots (very rare), its still full of things that compel you moment to moment. A lucky stone, a nice hat, pleasant fruit, things to BARTER. Charming little world where you can solve the ridiculous problems of endearing lil people while doing some sick hops and listening to some tasty jams. Its an effortlessly good time - which might not sound like much of a feat but design often struggles with getting in its own way. Boots Quest DX doesnt get in its own way, it accomplishes some nice pure clarity of function: youre there to e...

Never thought I'd enjoy a game about boots but here we are. Charming game of exploration. Love the graphic style and the slightly psychedelic music. Both are reminiscent of Baba Is You. Go on an unexpected journey! Discover unexpected boots! Embrace the barter economy! Gather tangerines! Wear unusual hats! Ascend into glory!

It's pure vibes and works wonders on my stress. My wife even likes it and she hates video games.

A charming game in all aspects. The dialogue and descriptions are consistently humorous. And you will want to pay attention to that dialogue not only for its wit since the story and puzzle elements aren't as simple as its innocuous presentation may suggest. Discovering new areas and interactions is often accompanied by a new bit of music, which can in turns be chill and quirky.
