About the Game

Garenburg Penitence is an action-puzzle arcade game and visual novel about matching sphere colors and exploring the collapsing psyche that destroyed the world.

With over 70 unique level maps, additional game modes, a level editor, and a tragic tale spanning across eight databases, learn the story of a fragile girl and her regretful actions.

If everything has a cost, then how much would it be to make the world a better place?

  • Fast, dynamic arcade gameplay. Fire spheres and match colors before they reach the end, and speed up or slow down to retain accuracy!

  • Story Mode: Clear a campaign of 130 levels with three difficulty options and unlock files to understand the truth of the world

  • File System: Spanning eight databases and consisting of around 80,000 words, read the pieces that make up a tragedy. If her story is not your interest, it is not necessary to read to experience the gameplay

  • Six different worlds with unique themes and 12 unique level maps each for a total of 72 levels

  • Five different gameplay modes, including Classic, No Mistakes, GREEN, Wave (difficulty increases over time), and Unwind (relaxing mode)

  • Custom Level Editor: Full support for player-made levels via both the Steam Workshop and local level loading

  • Multiplayer Versus: Grab an enemy or friend and battle to see who can get the most score or survive the longest

  • An original, dynamic soundtrack that changes as danger increases

  • Numerous configurable accessibility settings to change effects and visuals

This game relies on color matching and has fast movement and imagery. While some fast visual effects can be toggled off, distinguishing colors apart from each other is a key component of gameplay. There are multiple accessibility options for custom colors and other settings to help aid in this, but please keep this in mind if you have colorblindness.

Great, a little difficult, and fun enough to make it a tad difficult to stop. I love the story and the art style. Highly recommend

I've gotten to the end of Chapter 1, I intend to come back to this review after finishing the game- I didn't want to give too many comments on the story until I finished the game, same for the gameplay. But I wanted to give my first impression thoughts, as well as some other thoughts based on viewing other's playthroughs. When it comes to overall value, this game is a steal. It's one of the most unique visual novels I've played, and if you're looking for that unique experience you should definitely give the game a shot. I really am not that big a fan of reading, but the narrative of the first chapter kept me very engaged. It's full of a lot of good character moments so far (no spoilers, sorry!) with some stuff that's pretty relatable to me at least, and I'm really looking forward to how everything evolves. When it comes to accessibility and gameplay, I think that's one of the game's biggest struggles. If you're only looking forward to the story, then levels like the No Miss challenge...

Pretty cool, gameplay is simple yet tight, has beautiful multimedia visuals, and the story is interesting to delve into. Better than deltarune chapter 3.

I'm leaving a positive review for this game out of respect to the amount of work and time put into developing and executing their artistic vision, and that I do genuinely believe that I got the asking price of this game in terms of content and enjoyment. This review is pretty much exclusively referring to the gameplay of Garenburg Penitence, as I intend on engaging with the database logs (how the story is verbally communicated) at a separate time, though from the snippets I read I'm inclined to assume that it's engaging in its own right. As far as the gameplay goes, the premise is simple. The foundation of color-matching and moving on a fixed path is one that can be expanded upon in many directions, but the game capitalizes on this an extraordinarily little amount. The game advertises 130 levels in its Story Mode, but with only 70-or-so unique level maps you're left with a campaign that repeats a good half of its content with no meaningful changes to it. You can clear the orbs in the...
