Hylics 2

this game is great for a lot of reasons but nobody mentions the combat. the combat is really good

Better visuals than Hylics 1. Better soundtrack than Hylics 1. That's about it! Menuing is much worse than Hylics 1, combat is somehow more repetitive and takes way too much time compared to Hylics 1 thanks to all the fancy animations and game's strict balance. Movement feels incredibly floaty, and camera perspective makes exploration and platforming an absolute pain at times. It's honestly baffling how you can move the game to another engine, just for it to feel so much worse to play. Adding 2D platforming segments with incredibly inconsistent, and at times outright broken physics is also a decision that I struggle to fully understand. Did you like Hylics for its unique style? Then sure, game's worth a playthrough, but expect to burn out way before the story is over. Sadly, it's is not much better than one in original game, despite being more comprehensible.

I can see why people prefer hylics 1. its very nice and simple and you can beat it in one sitting. I think personally prefer hylics 2. the battles are more fun and difficult and the characters feel way more alive. I will agree with some faults of this game, like how the optional platforming stages are not very fun at all. I think its because hylics was always a game that gave you just hints towards direction and what to do next but that game design doesnt work well with platformers in my opinion. I think also the middle fo the game is a bit of a slog but the end of the game is very fun.
