About the Game

Cave Confectioner is a back-to-the-land farming and cooking RPG. Farm crops, discover new recipes, fight wild animals, and get to know the locals. But don't let your guard down. This is a two-handed experience that punishes you for overlooking details. Cavemen don't get vacations.

Explore an open world

Go almost anywhere, interact with almost anything, eat almost anything. The temperate climate makes crops grow fast and food plentiful.

Combine ingredients

An intuitive crafting system lets you at least attempt to combine everything with everything, whether or not the things go together. Combine natural ingredients with manmade things and fixtures of the world. Dozens of end products are formed by unique recipes, and only the correct combinations yield the goods.

Choose your own path

Craft things, sell foodstuffs to cave people, poke around and see how nature reacts. There is no "quest" or "mission" dialog box telling you where to go. Advancement is achieved through secrets and exploration.

Built to last

This developer has done the heavy lifting to give you a constant 60 FPS. A custom C++/OpenGL engine is used, Windows executables are built with MinGW, Linux executables are built against glibc 2.25 and tested on the latest versions of Ubuntu. There is no third-party proprietary software outside of Apple platforms. Anything that breaks is fixable.

The game is amazing. So amazing, that I was not even able to pass the tutorial. The game asks to eat berries, but I was not able to find a right button for this task (I am playing with mouse and keyboard).

I love the heart and effort I can see playing this game, but I felt like I wandered around the island for 30 minutes looking for what to do next. I understand that part of the fun in some of these games is figuring that out, but I suggested to the developer of adding in some way to give clueless players like me a clue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYGfZMC-GJs I recommend this game if you'd like to play it, and perhaps help this developer make this game more complete and fun to play because I do feel a lot of effort put into this so far. It's got the "cute" factor as well in some of the interactions, and I love that. Right now, I'd give the game a 6 out of 10, but feel that can definitely go up if the developer continues to flesh this game out more.

A true indie - hand drawn. Developer did a lot of work but there's still a way to go. Goats and ostriches are fun. Looking forward to playing it again after there's a little more content. Keep up the good work.

The game seems really nice, and I like the concept a lot. Thing is, I am having some issues with saving. However, as far as I understand the game is early in development and possibly being made by one person so issues like these are understandable. Can't wait for future updates! P.S A little help with saving would be much appreciated! :D Edit: Save function in now working. Also, the controls are fine, that was a mistake on my part. Big thanks to the developer for the fast fix and the kindness!

Cute game. Most of the game involves searching for and collecting food items to combine into recipes. I like the art, character movement, and the sound effects (especially the crickets, loons and eating an apple). I understand that the game is in development, so here are some things I hope to see addressed: I like the rivers, but I want to go swimming or get into the water. A waterfall area for fishing would be fun. I like the mountains, but why isn't there snow on top? In the snow zone, it would be fun to sled with or throw snowballs at the Yeti. The goats are cute, but they killed me. I want to feed the goats and tame them, but I couldn't. I enjoyed kicking the ostriches and making them squawk. Where's the cave dweller's club for protection? What's the jade for? Why can't I make a pumpkin pie? Good luck with this project!

Basic key controls don't work. Don't waste your money/time.

The controls are not great if using a mouse and keyboard. The inventory system is also not good because you can't sell excess material after you sell a few pieces (with no explanation of why you can't sell more). There are no bases you can build (safe locations) or chests. Once you learn the controls and understand some of the crafting it gets a bit better. This game has potential but needs more features in order to be a great game.

I dig the detailed, original art, and getting to explore the world while discovering new recipes was very enjoyable. Can't wait to see what's to come in future updates!

This game is interesting. I like the balance, it is difficult enough to make it interesting, but not so hard that you get frustrated. I would recommend.
