About This Game

A procedurally-generated sandbox stealth game with a whole city of secrets at your fingertips!

Shadows of Doubt is set in an alternate reality in the hyper-industrialized 1980s. Think like a detective and use a variety of gadgets as a private intelligence investigator, gathering evidence and making money by solving cases, finding and selling information and more.

Play your own way in a fully simulated world with hundreds of citizens. Discover, meet and tail individual citizens, each with their own name, job, apartment and daily routine, in unique, procedurally-generated cities. Each case has different culprits, clues and experiences for you to test your investigative skills.

Explore anywhere in the city! Every nook of every trashy bar, every place of work, every seedy hotel room… This dystopia is your oyster. Break into apartments, rifle through secret documents or hack security systems - even a discarded receipt can be the key to cracking a case. Trace the receipt back to an individual location, scour CCTV footage and match the time up to the receipt to find out who it belonged to!

The entire world is fully simulated. Each citizen has an apartment, job, daily routine, favorite things to do, places to go, and people to interact with. They live out their lives independently, in a world that moves on with or without you— uncover this knowledge and use it to your advantage!

Become a private investigator in a truly unique detective experience. Think like a detective to solve the cases around you: check call histories, find passwords, read private emails, speak to persons of interest, watch CCTV footage and more to retrieve evidence and build your case. Store information on your investigation board and link evidence together as you piece together the ful picture.

This game is way too glitchy and not optimized to be fully released. The atmosphere is incredible but still EXTREMELY glitchy and not optimized.

Buggy dog shit. Don't give your money to these developers that fully released a game in an almost unplayable state. 50% of cases you come across are bugged where they are literally impossible to solve. Security cameras capture nothing 90% of the time, civilians will pull out a gun and shoot you for minor offences, can't use guns yourself, missing evidence, witnesses tell you nothing at all and when they do its "oh yeah i work with them" no advanced questioning at all. Bare bones cash grab with little effort put into a full release, the game is early access with no more updates coming.

Despite not being a fan of crime solving. This game is pure atmosphere.

This game is an unpolished masterpiece. I mean that in the best way, very rarely did something break so completely that I'd have to abandon a case but generally there are so many ways to solve cases that you'll never be totally stuck. This game really feels like being a grizzled detective chasing down leads and solving things for yourself. Sure looking up "Shadows of Doubt" can help you discover new ways to gather info but it's going to take knowledge, luck and patience to track down your suspects. If you're looking for story, play one of the many other detective games in the genre but the ambitious mechanics of this game is what makes it shine.

For a procedurally generated detective game, cases and how you solve them gets really repetitive really quick. But this is a one of a kind game. For what it is and how much it costs, the experience is worth it. 7/10
Welcome to Jank City! Population: NaN
Shadows of Doubt is a game set on a simulated city island featuring dozens of layers of proc-gen buildings and people with traits, relationships, property and jobs, with few cut corners. But you know all that. Let's get to the point. Despite the complex systems at play, the game gets very repetitive for the 25€ price tag. The developers have put an exorbitant amount of work on the simulation aspect of things, and it shows, but it leaves the gameplay somewhat lacking. For example, solving a murder feels unstructured. You find fingerprints, look at security camera footage, study documents and combine the data on your board, but there never is a motive, which takes away from the satisfaction of solving a case for me. The side missions add a bit of spice: Once you've found fingerprints, looked at security cam footage, studied documents and combined the data, you are to throw a hamburger at the victim's face, trash their apartment or find...

i purchased the game in early access, it was very promising and had huge potential! When the full release came out i was so excited to see what they added. What did they add? One new crime. Did they add anything that actually made the game more fun or engaging? No. Just 15 minutes of "new" content. Absolutely not worth the current price.

One of those 'great when it works' things. The system of piecing together bits of evidence using the detectives notebook and pin board is very interesting, but sometimes it requires some patience.
