If you like Game Dev Tycoon and those types of games you will love this. Me and my wife discovered this game through a youtuber that likes to play random new games and try to "break them" and we both instantly wanted it. We each bought a copy and spent hours going through it yesterday and this morning. I like the concept, I like how you have to discover genre and style combinations that work, how you have to use experience points to gradually become a better writer etc. Gameplay tip: start with articles and non fiction books first as these require exp points to make money and more experience points. I like the direction the developer can go with this and I find that the game is a great game for its price. Conversations last night: Me: "I wonder if a non fiction guide about prisons would sell well?" Wife: ಠ_ಠ

Its fun, sure, but there are issues. A lot of issues. You take a major hit if you publish something that gets bad reviews but you don't anything if you publish something to 5 star reviews. When you unlock multi-genre novels, there's no bonus to having multiple points in both genres. You just need to be maxed out on the first one. So that's a waste in time and (very expensive) skill points. Unlocking your own website seems like a waste of time, too, as its super difficult not have it just drain money. The game def slows down in the second half and there's no option to increase speed so you're just staring at your computer screen while your guy writes a novel for four months. Kinda boring. After you retire, there are issues with upgrades. I bought one point in Historical but could never upgrade the second. Like I said, its fun enough and its a pretty decent time sink. But it gets slow and repetitive.

**Update: The devs have abandoned this. Don't buy it lol Unfortunately I can't really recommend this game. The best comparison to be made is with Game Dev Tycoon, and that's just light-years beyond this in terms of enjoyment and replay-ability. I see potential here, and I think if the devs actually release some solid updates to make it a bit more open to play around with that it could be great, but as it stands it's a no for me.

Eh it get's super boring and repetitive after awhile. I play many games where you do much of the same tasks, but in this game they are just tedious and not fun to do. The Devs also seemed to have abandoned the game as it has not been updated for awhile now.

I seem to replay through this game every 3-4 months or so when there have been a few updates and it always seems somewhat fresh. Very good time waster if you enjoy the typical, other management games. What initially drew me to this was the "Writer" theme, and as a whole, its very well made.

Boring and grindy. A complete waste of money. Due to the objectives being absolutely linear, your gameplay will always track more or less the same. Please spare the cash and buy something else.

As gruelling and frustrating as a real writing career, would play again.

In its current state: cannot recommend. This game is basically Game Dev Tycoon but where you play an aspiring writer instead of a game developer. You can write articles, short stories, non-fiction and novels. Genres and themes are unlocked through an XP requirement that becomes far more of a chore because you can only earn considerable amounts of XP from large and unprofitable projects like non-fiction and novels. Main reason I cannot recommend Drafting Tales is because the game is about as fair and balanced as Fox News. With each year that goes by, inflation goes up considerably (price for vacations and rent) but your earnings from a publisher don't, meaning that you'll struggle to even afford rent before long. Another problem is that large projects as previously mentioned, are unprofitable. If it takes 8 times the time to write a book compared to an article or short story, and also a significant investment into a vacation because writing that book will drain your stamina, the book ...
