Metaloid: Origin is criminally underrated and an underappreciated hidden gem. It is made by the developers of METAGAL and unlike that one, Metaloid has lots of originality such as its grindy nature that locks upgrades behind some sort of shop system. The level design is also a lot better and less linear since there are many hidden upgrades waiting for to be collected along with hidden boss fight called Aeon which will grant you Origin Level to enhance your abilities even further. There are also many big gems for you to find and they are required for an achievement. However, the game lacks the necessary guide about them but fear not, because I'm working on it! One glance at Metaloid: Origin will give away the Mega Man vibe it's carrying because it is obviously inspired by Zero and ZX series. Storywise, it's more like X series but whatever. There is dash but sadly, there is no wall slide. However, you can make your character attach to certain terrain on the walls. There are also three ...

I've only played an hour so far but i can already see how this game is definitely very good. Controls are spot on, the art design is great and the level design is interesting enough, incorporating a lot of verticality along with the usual horizontal scrolling. If you're a fan of Mega Man or similar games, you're definitely gonna like it!

As someone who enjoyed Metagal, a megaman style game by the same devs, I was pleased with this game. Similar in feel to metagal as a magaman style retro action-platformer, it feels more like megaman zero or ZX. Which isn't a bad thing. I swear the devs actually took most of my nitpicks of Metagal, and made vast improvements based on community input. They even had better difficulty balancing and got rid of the annoying forced boss rush. It does have some clipping issues with characters going out of bonds in some areas and still has english issues, but neither of those things really hurt my enjoyment. It's a crying shame that the game doesn't appear to be doing well, because it deserves more attention and I would love to see a sequel or a Metagal game made with the lessons learned here. Pros: Great gameplay and visuals from the 90s era, with out cheaping out for 8bit like a lot of retro games. Almost all of Metagals issues are fixed. Large and fairly diverse stages. Good music. A litt...

Criminally underrated, especially at $7. Tight controls, tons of unique abilities per character, great level design and good variety in the gameplay. Bosses are brutal but never frustrating or "cheap". Lacks a bit in the story department and the character sprites aren't amazing, but its a solid experience all the way through. Can't comment on the difference between normal and hard mode as I played through only on hard, but I assume not much is different besides damage scaling and some enemy placement. Really hope we see a sequel with publisher support and a bit more polish who can market the game, it deserves the sales. That said, game could use some more polish. Lots of "Engrish" and a few achievements do not work as intended.

Great game! Silky smooth scrolling, nice gfx and sound. Perfect classic retro platformer experience with power ups, different weapons, bosses, dash etc.. Good scanlines screen fx (old TV-like). Even my Hori Fighting Stick Mini is supported for a real arcade retro-style feeling! A real pity it's underrated. Recommended for classic platform players.

Good game if you are looking for something similar to Megaman X. Levels are big and you have three characters you can play as. Music is great and it really has that old-school feel to it. If you are coming from MetaGal; this game feels more polished. I think I only ran into one bug so far and it hasn't happened again. (I played MetaGal recently and it had a lot of bugs.. like going through the floor and getting stuck when going through a door)

A very mediocre Mega Man clone with levels that drag on a little too long for my liking, even if there's not that many. It would have worked way better as a metroidvania with these long levels seamlessly interconnected. Bosses are not very fun too fight, the sound when the collectible gems are picked up is annoying, collecting the larger ones have a weirdly upset sounding jingle, upgrades with said collectibles are not at all satisfying or rewarding. I die too many times for my liking due to shoddy level design and enemy placement, instead of a proper lives system the gems are required to continue after every death which means even after clearing a level I miss out on upgrades, the dash feels awkward and gives you too much distance, the CRT filter makes the game lag considerably to where it runs like molasses, the only character design I find appealing is the orange cat, music is fine but repetitive, pixel art is passable. The Mega Man games on the SNES look, sound and play better t...

The game is fine. I wish there was a neutral recommendation option. I bought it because I saw a lot of reviews that say it is a Megaman X style game, but I don't agree. It's like Megaman X in that it's a side scroller and you dash and shoot, but that's about it. I felt like the story could of been fleshed out and the final boss was completely different from the rest of the game, which sucked. The game didn't feel like it had an identity. Sometimes you are doing little puzzles, sometimes platforming, and then the final boss is like, some sort of bullet hell, but not really kinda of situation. Had some issues with shooting enemies as well if you were too close. The graphic are solid and so are the controls. You can choose from 3 different characters, which is a nice idea(although the game didn't interest me enough to do more than 1 playthrough). Those other characters also help you with the final boss, which is neat.

Will update when further in but so far it's a really tight Megaman clone, X in particular. 3 to choose from characters with different weapons each, so there's plenty of variety for multiple playthroughs. So, if you have a particular itch for a Megaman X-like game, this title just might be able to scratch it.

I got this on impulse. It popped up and I grabbed it. It's definitely worth the price. If you want a decent platformer and want to relive the Mega Man experience, this is perfect. The controls are great and the levels are fun and challenging. The only real downside is the grammar, it can really distract when you're learning the controls in the beginning. All in all, 7/10.
