In the vast, uncharted waters of video games, I stumbled upon a title that promised an escape from the crushing weight of reality. Little did I know, "Spiritfarer" would drag me into the murky depths of existential dread, disguised as a serene voyage of the afterlife. This game, with its charming exterior and heart-wrenching narrative, has left me feeling more adrift than ever before. I found solace in the concept of guiding lost spirits to the afterlife. Yet, as I played, I realized it wasn't the gentle, healing journey I craved. It was a mirror reflecting the desolate emptiness of my soul. It lures you in with its warm, inviting embrace, only to reveal the harsh truth of your insignificance in the grand tapestry of the cosmos. Each character I met, with their tragic backstories and haunting smiles, served as a stark reminder of the painful connections we form, only to watch them fray away like the fabric of time...

Visually stunning. Exquisite soundtrack. Excellent concept. However, there were major issues for me that don't get talked about much, and I think it's only fair that potential players know going in, because some games like this can get swept up into a kind of positivity frenzy (especially with the cozy influencers). I know this goes against the grain of the big hype, and there's a lot about the game I loved. But ultimately I felt let down by the game for a few reasons: -Too much of the character development is completely missable, and forums are full of people who have gone online to find out the character backstories because they didn't get *most* of the dialogue in game that would have given you this information. The whole thrust of the game is getting to know the different characters, empathising with them, and helping them to move on. To make it possible to just miss huge portions of each character arc really undermines this premise. There shouldn't be whole Reddit threads with ...
This game is a very slow burn. At times I wouldn't actually say that I was enjoying myself, but it is a very pleasant and relaxing experience. I mostly played on my Steam Deck which this was perfect for.
Everything is perfect except gameplayloop Really tedious game; animations are beautiful but the problem is that you will end up seeing the same ones +30 times (watering plants, cutting trees etc take way to long because of that). The grind is not as fun as in a game like Stardew Valley because of that, I don't want to spend half my time playing watching my character doing the same cute move whenever she wants to do something
I would have left a neutral review if possible. I have only just come down on the side of recommending it, but I would give it no more than a solid 3 stars out of 5. I did initially have a great time with the artwork, exploration and mini games. But I tired of the unthinking repetitiveness of it all. There wasn't much to the management side of things, because I usually had way more resources than I needed just through filling time while travelling from island to island. Feeding people or not, giving them their favourite dish or something else - none of this made much difference to the game. I vastly preferred the management sim aspects of Dave the Diver, for example. This gameplay was ultimately mindless busywork that characters instructed me to do - go here, go there, make this, make that. I also found it increasingly frustrating that I had to frequently interrupt what I was doing to cancel events for resources I didn't need. The platforming was largely good fun, and not too challe...
WOAH GORG GAME!! I cried, I giggled, I fell in love with all characters and their story line. Only ONE thing... To 100% the game you do have to play two runs, and get pretty far into the second. But in the end That wont bother me at all since it's such a lovely game! <3
You'll cry. You'll ugly cry. But... it's worth it. Aside from that, I'm not normally a big fan of resource management and getting caught up in farming - but this was lovely. It introduced new features at a great cadence. The explanations were fluid and meshed with the story line. The artwork is beautiful. The music is lovely. Did I mention that you'll cry? I just finished it and should have had tissues on hand. Silly mistake. Absolutely play it, but pace yourself if you need to. <3
I'm not usually one for resource management and all that, but there's something about this game that just feels so patient. There's no rush to anything Why is it that the games with the cutest art are the ones that are so good at making you cry
I adore this game. As a hospice nurse myself, I already thought I would like it. As someone who was going through a really difficult time and couldn't function, this game gave me a safe place, and I loved being free to catch lightning. Beautiful game, beautiful concept, beautiful music, beautiful message. I only wish there were more of it.
I had trouble getting into this game at first, with the gameplay, and I came back to it several months later. When I realized that it wasn't an interesting game because of its gameplay, but because of its characters, it completely changed my approach. I loved every character (with a slight preference for Daria and Jackie). The soundtrack is excellent. It's a game that I hope will bring a tear to your eye. 9/10.
