About This Game

Prodeus is a first-person shooter of old, re-imagined using modern rendering techniques and technology. Experience the quality you’d expect from a modern AAA game, designed with retro aesthetics and gameplay that invoke the tech-imposed limits of older hardware.

The game features a hand-crafted campaign from industry FPS veterans, co-op and competitive multiplayer play drawing on classic modes*, a fully integrated level editor, and a built-in community map browser for instantaneous action with nearly limitless levels to play.

Get ready to paint the walls red. This is the Boomer Shooter you’ve been waiting for.

FEATURES

A short, sweet, fantastic boomer shooter with some interesting ideas and unique sound and visual design. A common pitfall of games like these is getting lost, unable to figure out where to go or what to do. This game doesn't have that issue due to great level design - not once did I ever get lost while trying to continue.

Prodeus is a decent replication of modern FPS game elements infused in a Boomer-Shooter experience. The gun play is fun and satisfying which features an arsenal of weapons with great variety. Unfortunately, the variety of level environments and enemies fall short throughout the game, making it bland at times. Being a fan of shooter games, Prodeus was still an entertaining experience for me - it is a straightforward experience where you go through levels of enemies and find secrets throughout the level. The retro Boomer-Shooter experience adds to the character of the overall game design, and the music is decent. On top of that, community maps are still accessible, adding replay value to the game. If you are a fan of the Boomer-Shooter genre especially those from the 90s, I suggest to give this game a shot when its on sale. You will never go wrong with feeling like an ultimate bad ass clearing waves of enemies in a classic Boomer-Shooter experience.

This is a difficult one to rate. It's a great game that is a lot of fun to play, but I really don't like the retro thing. It's sort of exaggerated retro and there's just no need for it. The weapons and so on move about so slowly it's ridiculous and the amount of gore is just crazy. It performs well, so there really is no need for the 10fps stuff. And Funny that it has retro graphics but not a retro price. Personal choice, I suppose, but I really do find it difficult to recommend a full price.

Very cool. It's a lot like DOOM, you run around and shoot stuff up a lot. Pixel graphics look really crisp, runs smooth, blood effects are gratuitous and fun as you blast your way through. Something about this game play is very cathartic after a busy week.

Comes so close to perfection on so many fronts but shoots itself in the foot before sticking the landing. This game is neither fast paced like Quake nor a slower, more methodical shooter like Ion Fury. It occupies this awkward middle ground. Circle-strafing isn't a viable strategy because enemies lead their shots. It could've worked as a cover shooter but there are many events when a horde of enemies just teleport all around you and you can't tell what's going on because of all the particle effects in the way. Checkpoint system is terrible. Lives system would have been better. Level design is confusing and that makes secrets annoying to find. They can't even be ignored because finding them is the only way to unlock weapons. Never had the intention of refunding this game just from the hope that a modder someday would fix all the small things that make this game incredibly frustrating.

Prodeus doesn't do a whole lot that's new, but it executes everything really well. The art direction is hazy and interesting, with some phenomenal blood splatter effects that sell the brutality of the weapons you use. The pixel art is overall really strong, as is the sound design, which consists of foreboding metal and dark wave tracks, as well as fantastic weapon sound effects; it's a weird thing to say, but the laser sniper weapon has some of the most satisfying reload sound effects I've heard. The enemy bestiary isn't the biggest, but the ones that are here are distinct enough to tell you exactly what they will do. Like all the best shooters, the visual language of Prodeus is mostly very clear, which is a good thing given the hyper aggressive playstyle it champions. Pretty much none of the enemies will sit still, so the key to success is applying pressure back to the enormous hordes you blast your way through while keeping a steady pace. On medium difficulty, which is the standard,...

Idk why I bought this a while back and never played it. That changed yesterday when I tried this game, and I can wholeheartedly say, I like this more than DOOM. To me it's like a Duke Nukem meets Doom -- so different and exceptionally beautiful. Not anywhere close to being finished with the game as well; this game doesn't feel rushed and this game rewards you for actually looking around. A plethora of weapons to find/choose from, secrets in every map just like DOOM.. If there was ever a Prodeus 2 dropping, I'd be ALL over that. If you're someone who enjoys games like DOOM, Duke Nukem (even Half Life too, there's some elements in the game that give me nostalgia for HL) Definitely a purchase you would not regret. Give it a try when there's a sale or just buy it full price. It's absolutely worth it.
