Very cool and quite challenging game, i'm encouraging you to keep making games, Gnomearc! I just think 4€ is a bit too much for this kind of game. I mean, i have nothing against giving a token euro to someone who made a cool amateur game. But i think fixing the price higher than one symbolic euro is kind of absurd, since there are tons of free amateur games like this one (or even better ones) on the web. I think lowering the price and/or inviting people to give a little donation would be more relevant. I'm sorry to say that because SMOKED is cool, but if you have to invest a little money for a game like this, just buy Hotline Miami : it's a little more expensive (though still quite cheap) but it's also better made, more good-looking and longer.

8.5/10 overall: deffo buy this if you're interested in a cool mini narrative told in a Hotline Miami-style shooter price: basically free -- after what steam takes out in fees etc. the dev is likely getting no money for selling at these prices. i got it for $0.79 on sale. you have no reason not to pick this up gameplay: some things were a little rough around the edges. you get stuck on walls when you move into them, which makes it hard to peek when you need to. also, the enemies have random patrol patterns, whereas in Hotline Miami they had set patterns. the reason the "r to restart" thing works so well is that you can quickly start up again after dying, and use what you learned from the last run on the enemies who will be set up the same way. i really wished the enemies started in the same direction every life.
also, the car chase scene was fucking KICKASS. i wish Hotline Miami had implemented something like that. you pulled off the base formula for a car chase in a ...

I have no idea if the inconsistency of the enemy AI is intentional or not but honestly for the given price its a pretty good game

For the price tag, I guess it's not bad. However there are some serious flaws. Sounds have zero variation, so expect the same death yells constantly. Enemy AI is completely random leading to unexpected restarts. Weapons are mostly random too - sometimes you must use a short range weapon in a long range encounter or just pray to the RNG gods and restart. I'd give this a 50/50 score if I could but it accomplishes everything it promises, tipping the balance in favor of a good review.

It's not something mind-blowing or even extensively polished (like the hit detection of the player, which seems to work inconsistently), but I can see some effort was put into this. The game's got a few moody looping tunes, which rarely manage to get repetitive since most of the time you spend only a few minutes on each level, a messy, unique style with its intentional qrotesque cartoonish simplicity, it's rather bloody, with your enemies' death poses being nice and gory, the combat system isn't outstanding (it's basically a slightly dumbed down Hotline Miami formula), but it works fine and doesn't seem to have any game-breaking bugs and the plot is this Max Payne-ish revenge story with a few twists here and there that contribute to a change of pace throughout the game, the finale has a little surprise effect to it, including the penultimate action sequence. For such a low price, this one-hour experience is worth giving a shot.

Pretty good game, kinda like a scuffed hotline miami. Not super hard, but inconsistency may get on your nerves

Smoked plays like a game from the early days of free browser games, only darker and more uniquely styled than what you might have found on Miniclip. I recommend this bc it is difficult but fun to get right, as well as being quite cheap for the 2 hours I put into playing it.
