The basic idea for "Battleships and Carriers" is to build an extension to the classic Battleship game. Standard Battleship game tends to be very boring after a while. On the other hand, modern naval strategy games are becoming more and more complex and difficult, especially for the player who didn't get his degree in Annapolis Naval Academy.
In this statement, they have succinctly described what the game is. They've made a strategy/tactics game that you can learn in about 15 mins. I definitely see how they added a few simple rules to expand on the idea of classic battleship. There are plenty of scenarios. The game includes the basic elements you'd expect of a strategy game: -production -tech -recon/sensors -firepower -etc... At first I though maybe the U/I was clunky, but it is actually pretty smooth. Not sexy by any means, but easy to use. In summary, I'm a fan of the simplicity. Except for the screen resolution thing, which I'm s...

Total FRUSTRATION! Ui is gamer unfriendly. You start out with default chosen units IN CAMPAIGNS. You CANNOT change them. In scenarios YES but not campaigns. Why NOT allow the player to choose their own units in campaigns? Also WHY no multiplayer? @BurgerKing 1941 Dev, This game could have been so much better if you had allowed more customization in the settings. I see you made a second game based on the American/Japanese War in the Pacific. Is it pretty much like this one? Basic ui & hardly any customization allowed in the settings? Any chance you will make a naval strategy game based on all naval battles of WW2? If so will you make the ui better and add more customization in the settings?

Even on a big monitor I found it hard to read the text or easily recognize the success my attacks were having. The names of the ships do seemto be relatively historically accurate, but it can be difficult to tell the difference between the larger ship classes and they use some ship classes that are not standard, which can get confusing when you are asked say to sink a certain type of ship.

Easy to learn, hard to master. Kind of like Battleship the board game in a way. You have to be very lucky in some ways to discover the enemy units you seek to destroy. Decent game. And for the price... well, you will get hours out of it.

Enjoyable! + Search and destroy - if you can't find 'em, you can't kill 'em. Rock, paper, submarine - use the right vessel for the job. Once you take a base it is an idea to build airfields / radar bases there. Like the real thing. Many, many scenarios, campaigns, and ship types. - Font used small and colours chosen for text poor. Crashed once (after a loss). Remember to Produce early in turn, as it flicks to enemy turn after all your units moved. Not suitable for cry babies who do not know what "search" means. (Edit) - Ships need space to turn round. 3 Cruisers of mine got stuck in a corner and couldn't turn round.

Would be fun little gem to kill time but ends up being too trivial, with murky mechanics and presentation is on par with 1995 games (yes that matters too!)

For a $12 USD game it's pretty good, The U.I can be rough but it's readable, It's definitely a fun game It may not be advanced and it really is easy to learn within 5-10 minutes but that isn't a weakness, It's a fun and enjoyable experience using cruisers/battleships/bombers and other units as you follow an objective these objectives can be destroy a carrier or a certain amount of battleships or defend your ports for x amount of turns, I haven't played much of the campaign but the new mission does have 60 missions, Do keep in mind that you will be repeating objectives and some are the same thing just different sides (For example Mussolini's defense and Invasion of Italy), While this isn't a con but it's important to consider if you want each mission to be unique.

This game is very similar to the Battleships and Carriers of the Pacific. Same makers. Virtually everything is the same as my review for that game. Very basic strategy games, but both good. Keeps your interest and keeps you on your toes, at least for the beginning naval war gamer thru intermediate. I've been gaming a long time and have some fancier games, but these are still great to play. I would highly recommend this as well as the Pacific spin-off for anyone who enjoys a little retro gaming or any beginners to strategy type naval world war II games.
