An astonishing piece of art! Very short thought, but that doesn't matter in this case (free art house game).

About This Game
The game, situated within the traditions of Persian miniature art form and cold war foreign policy, asks players to consider their connection to Iranian history. The Cat and the Coup is both about the relationship between the Western video game player and Mossadegh and, by extension, the United States and Iran. It lays a foundation for today’s critical question -- how do the people know when their democracy is threatened?

Interesting use of a game to educate people on the history of the first democratically elected Prime Minister Of Iran. A short game with simple gameplay, and quite stunning visuals & music. You play as the PM's cat, who leads him through events throughout his life by solving simple puzzles. Don't take my word for it, and check out my video by clicking on the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqH8C2HfZ1U
An enticing visual story of the imperial West's role in Iran during the 1950s. In The Cat and the Coup, you play as the cat of Mohammad Mosaddegh, the first democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran, and go through back in time his story as Prime Minister, starting with his death under house arrest, and ending with his defense of the nationalization of the oil in Iran. The Cat and the Coup is a must for anyone interested in Iranian history, and especially for anyone who hasn't heard of Anglo-American intelligence operations that led to Operation Ajax, and the outing of Dr.Mosaddegh. A short visual novel, the few minutes you'll spend in The Cat and the Coup will detail to you the events that led up to Operation Ajax, and will, with subtle jabs, the imperialist ambitions of the West whose espionage led to Mossadegh's overthrow.
Interesting Concept... Not a waste of time... glad to know about this genre.
"what did I just play" -extra credits, games you might not have tried series.
Yes.
a beautifully produced game about the 1953 Iranian coup. the art (influenced by Persian art) alone warrants some of your playtime. unforunately, the gameplay itself is pretty much padding that hinders the pacing of the narrative. because of this, the game feels like a short video that occasionally wastes some of your time, which is to waste the potential of the format of a computer game. as for the history lesson, it is a bit shallow, but still interesting because i imagine that the POV and very knowledge of this event is foreign for many english speaking players. ++ the reverse-then-normal chronological order of the story is very neat ++ beautiful art 6.5/10
20 minutes max. A lesson in history from a perspective you likely have not heard. Recommendation: Download and play it through.
Yes is it way too simplistic to be called a "documentary" - But it did made look up Iran's recent history, did it? So it did what it was set to do. Looks like a quite limited production in terms of time and money. The final product is both entertaining and makes the player want to learn more about this very briefly covered subject. The gameplay is not histerical but I honestly don't understand what people expect from a free game that is labeled as "short" and it makes thiw brief history lesson much more fun and memorable than, say, just reading about it. The facts at the end go just a bit too fast IMO as someone who's native language isn't English. The contrast between the event in the game and the Art at the background shows a disturbing "fall from grace" of a whole nation\culture and is pretty powerful.
There's no much playability. Art and music are superb. It's an art piece. I know nothing about the history. I would have enjoyed and understand more if I had known. Nevertheless it's great and you won't waste your time.
