I really, really wanted to like this game, but I cannot recommend it to other players...yet. I'm a U.S. Navy veteran, a student of military history, a life long gamer and I have probably purchased every non-arcade, realistic type, naval video game released...even the terrible ones, so I have some understanding of the subject. I'll touch on the bad first. After attempting for almost four hours just to learn the basics of how to play it, I largely failed. The manual is minimal at best and is largely unhelpful. The English needs major editing and redone in many areas. There are numerous typos, incorrect use of words, poor selection of words to indicate what buttons are for, etc. The controls are confusing and poorly designed, and I felt like I was actually fighting those more than the enemy ships. Same with the windows and how they operate within the game. This is a matter of taste, but, visually, I also dislike the blue, poorly imaged turrets and the huge round cannon balls...

About This Game
Naval Admiral Józef Unrug (1884-1973) – the father of the Polish navy.
Battleship or Salvo? No, it’s much more!
Naval Battles Simulator is not an ordinary game: it is a tactical simulation of naval operations. NBS will throw you into the world of being a fleet commander in the most exciting battles on the water ever – the darkest times of World War II (1939-1945).
NBS gives you an unpatrolled opportunity to control the actions of your fleet.
With options based on real-world mechanics, you'll be able to control the fate of every single unit on the sea - from maneuvering the ship through the ammunition selection and finally to controlling your whole fleet.
Features:
* A multitude of battleships to choose from - feel like a real commander of a single vessel or even a whole fleet of the Second Republic of Poland, Third Reich or the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland!
* Enhanced tactical options - use well-known strategies to defeat your opponents or create your own ones!
* Advanced game mechanics that influence the player's actions – weather based on the historical data, the artificial intelligence of the opponent or even luck can thwart your plans!
* "Shipyard" mode, which gives you an opportunity to create your own fleet based on other sides of the conflict,
* The clear and legible layout, which allows for quick orientation in the heat of battle
* Archival radio snippets of BBC radio broadcasts and music to get you through the conflict!
* Featured story of the struggles of a Royal Navy sailor during the turmoil of war,
* Infinite hours of fighting at sea!
Prepare yourselves for a real sea adventure!

User Reviews
Great wargame handling naval warfare in the western hemisphere during WWII. If you liked any of the SSI games in the 80's and 90s you will love this. More in depth. Support this product if you want more updates and DLCs. Love to see some Pacific ships also. Nothing like it in this genre that I have found. Excellent product for a fair price. @TacticWargamer
TLDR: The new user experience is awful. The game has CTDed twice so far. As far as I can tell, im supposed to manually send convoys across the atlantic, and then occasionally control a battle. Compared to Rule the Waves, this gives me more control over what task forces end up involved in the battles, but as far as I can tell there isn't really anything else it does better than Rule the Waves 2. okay, I can manually press a button to make guns fire, and I can manually order damage control around, but overall I have not yet run into any exciting features. Other than this, as far as I can tell there are no aircraft or carriers in the game. There doesn't appear to be a way to order ships yourself, new ships just appear in shops sometimes. There is no manual to speak of and the tutorial is useless for figuring out the campaign. I hope they improve the game, and there's some potential, but as it stands I see absolutely no reason to play this.
So far ok. Since there is no in depth tutorial it is a slow learning process. Some real language issues are seen but a lot of that is grammar and sentence structure. Very much appears like "second language" made. Some words bother more than others....I have never heard list referred to as tilt. Ever. As to mentioned malware, Sophos, MalwareBytes, and Defender found nothing. Also I changed resolution 4 times and had zero issues. May be software / hardware specific issues for those persons. I will update as I go along with this program. I envision an end product that's 1 part "Action Stations", 1 part "GNBNA" and 1 part "Rule the Waves". We'll see. So far I am optimistic.
Looks like every shot fired hits the target even when zoomed in. Guns reload instantly? Unlimited ammo. Needs shell splash's. Crashed to the desktop over and over, froze a few times as well. Has potential but not at the moment. A very confusing campaign. I use to play Great Naval battles on Dos so Im not new to this type of game. This game need a lot of work and bug fixing. Refunded.
I initially gave a bad review of this, but I will now give it a very low level thumbs up. I have looked for a reasonably detailed WW2 naval game for some time and I think this may be it, but not quite yet. Yes, I know that it is early access so maybe I should have waited. At the least I think a better tutorial is required and some of the controls seem a bit weird. However, I will follow it closely and fiddle with it some more.
I am enjoying the game very much so far. I've only played historical battles but will tackle the campaign game soon. The graphics, as they stand now, are good if minimal. The interface is very user friendly and make the game flow smoothly. Battles are exciting to watch and the overall fun of the game is high. I like the addition of period radio. The developer is very responsive and will be improving the game in the months ahead. Highly recommended.
[Early Access Review] NBS in early access is worth picking up. The Battle section of the simulator is in a near finished state. It is similar in UI and level of simulator of Naval Warfare's "Steam & Iron" series. For that alone it is worth the price. It is already solid. The Campaign, has a lot to go from an interface perspective, but what is there is showing what to expect in the long haul. I like the timeline style progression with radio and text messaging, along with radio broadcasts. It has a unique feel to it. This is one of the only early access games I've bought over the past few months that I'm actually looking forward to helping provide input for, and improve. What is here, has a lot of potential. This really fits a specific niche on more purist style, no frills, ww2 naval simulation. I do hope that carrier operations in the Pacific are added. Currently, this is primarily and North Atlantic and Med simulation. I hope as the simulation gets more buyers in early access, it wil...
Naval Battles Sim could be a very good game, but not now. Main reason it lacks a detailed manual and some other options and sound. I cannot see how a game developer can make ready a game for same without a manual. In my opinion the manual should proceed the game. lets go developers update this game and make available the manual I, hope "early access" doesn't mean take our money and we never hear from you again
I like the game very much so far. It is run smoothly, no crashes, no bugs and no problem with installing it on my computer. The price is just the right price to help the makers of this game keep going with a great product. The game is graphically simple not messy and easy to navigate. I have played battles, campaign and used shipyard so far. I have enjoyed to watch Campaign in CPU vs CPU mode and play in campaign battles. The in-game encyclopedia is very engaging too. The game has a beautiful period graphic design (and radio) and very detailed after-action battle maps and reports which show a tracing of courses and engagements of forces involved and ships hits and damaged. This game is a must-have for the naval enthusiast, with deep modelling of ship systems, weather conditions, visibility and gunnery. Recommended for those who like an authentic naval simulation in the style of Command or Rule the Waves. Certainly great value for the low price!
