About This Game

Ant Empire is a tactical strategy and management game set in a world where ant species battle to become the top empire. This deeply detailed and nostalgic turn-based simulation is a mix of many popular older games-- but with a much more modern feel. Select from 5 unique species that feature characteristics in the game based on how the species actually behaves naturally.

Undertake in a unique campaign as each species, or battle in free play with a variety of settings, maps, and objectives. Earn progress towards Steam achievements, master different game modes, or simply try new strategies to build your empire.

Colonies develop and become more powerful each day. Nests can grow to become military strongholds, economy powerhouses, research havens, defensive outposts, or even breeding grounds for new colonies-- and much more. Each colony has multiple ways to let them specialize. You can:
  • Adjust the ratio of workers, soldiers, and princesses being produced.
  • Dictate what the workers are doing, rather it be foraging, digging, or nursing.
  • Select a colony focus that gives the colony a particular bonus.
  • Choose the type of food the queen eats, giving different bonuses.
  • Use powerful abilities unique to each species.
  • Activate abilities such as "Set Food Trap", "Defense Mode", "Sacrifice Princess", and more.
  • Build perks to gain bonuses for the colony.
  • Spend influence to claim nearby tiles, or remove the claim from tiles owned by enemy colonies.
  • Attack enemy nests, or reinforce friendly nests.
  • Select the type of nest during creation.
  • Much more, as well as new abilities and features in the works to be added.

Use your ants to attack other colonies, or reinforce friendly nests. Soldiers are much more powerful than workers, but do not perform tasks such as foraging for food, digging to grow the nest, and nursing to increase production. Princesses are used to create new nests around the map. As your empire grows, you will have to manage and make several important decisions such as the location of your soldiers, planning attacks, managing your economy, and how to counter the enemy's moves.

Research upgrades by gaining research points each day. Research points unlock new features, improve existing actions, increase limits, and increase stats. Perk points are improvements that benefit a particular colony. Perks are harder to come by than research points. Influence is used to claim nearby tiles for the colony, and remove the claims of enemy colonies.

There are a ton of additional features-- a daily log to summarize events, a beautiful graph that compares different stats for each species over time, stats that shows the details of all the ants for every species in a side-by-side window, a tutorial to cover all the basics of Ant Empire, randomly generated events, achievements, automated saving, and much more.

I don't normally write reviews but have been motivated by the couple of negative reviews and the small number of reviews this game has received. Let's be clear, this game has content. In fact it has quite a lot of content, lots of stats, a fairly clear tutorial and no obvious bugs. The screenshots and the developers game description are a fair and accurate representation of what you will be getting. My first impressions are that this could be a good, and perhaps fairly complex, strategy game if you have tired of space/fantasy/medieval settings and want something different. Overall I am happy with what I have seen and don't regret buying the game.

Refunded after 5 minutes unfortunately, I had high hopes for this game coming from SimAnt and Empires of the Undergrowth. But it's not polished enough to be playable for me. There is no way to change the display resolution. I play on a 4k monitor and not being able to change the display, means all the graphics are extremely pixilated, and the text throughout the game is blurry. Therefore at this moment it is unplayable and an eyesore for me.

It's 2021, I'm riding around on a bug mount I farmed in Classic WoW with the help of some sick bros. I just figure let's look around for some bug games, stumble upon this beauty. If you enjoy games like Civ, give it a try, plan on staying in my own colony digging to the bottom of this game and a bottle suntory. If you're a gamer, like me who reads these reviews, you will not be disappoint. Now let me get back to that bottle.

About 3 years ago, I saw this game on Steam. Then I read that the dev lost the source code and was terminating it, indefinitely. I kept the game in my wishlist and continued to check in every so often. To my surprise, It was in beta testing. A week later, it's finally here! From what i've played so far, it is a very fun, turn based, game. I am not really good at growing my colonies while trying to stop the enemies from overrunning me. I guess it will come with time. But overall, it is a great game. I have enjoyed every hour so far and I will continue to play it for days, weeks, months and years to come! Great job man!

I've been waiting for this game for at least a year and while I've only played this game for 30 minutes to an hour so far, I can say it's fun if you enjoy top down RTS's. You should DEFINITELY do the tutorials or it's easy to get lost in the many options available to you in the game, but once you know how everything works it's a fun game to play. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys RTS's. I'll edit this after I play it a bit more.

Update: Dev confirmed on steam forum he will not be making any changes to support other hardware configurations. Just grabbed the game, however currently at this time, it is nearly impossible to play with a 4k Monitor, Heed the other reviews mentioning this! At the time of purchase/review there is NO, PERIOD, way to change the aspect ratio from 4:3 and the resolution from.... 480p perhaps? This results in an image that looks like Vaseline on your eyes, and having to get closer to text to read whats going on.

Didn't play the game very long, but I long enough to know that it wasn't for me. I was hoping for a remake of the ole' sim ant. Turns out this is more like a strict overview management game with no option for controlling ants/digging nests/etc... Probably not a bad game, but just not for me.

If you want to play a grand strategy/nation management game, but want a break from the brain-bending micromanagement of Paradox-style games, Ant Empire is the game you want but didn't know you needed. "Thinky" and immersive enough to keep you occupied but not enough to overwhelm you.

Very immersive gameplay-- very easy to lose track of time as you're managing your colonies and realizing your cohesive vision for your empire. It's a chill, almost meditative experience.

Scam Alert! This game does not work at all. It should not be released. There screenshot look nice, but none of this is in the game. The game has exactly 0 content. Only the game menu exist. After that, nothing. I have never experienced such a scam in steam. Edit 1: Juli 21 I have hundreds of games in my library and supported dozens of early access games. I have never experienced a game where the bug is "that 0 content is available" and the only thing the game offers is a game menu. If it is not scam, it will be an incredible buggy release. I recommend to wait to buy this game until such critical bugs have been solved. Edit 2: August 21 The Dev claims the issue has been solved. The Dev claimed the bug occured for users outside the USA. I can not test that, as I have refunded the game. I still recommend not to buy this game unless you feel risky.
