About the Game

One of a series of six games, THE LOST LEGENDS OF REDWALL™: ESCAPE THE GLOOMER© is created in partnership with Soma Games, and owned by The Redwall Abbey company™, SOMA Games, and Penguin Random House UK™. The Lost Legends of Redwall™: Escape the Gloomer© is a Conversational Adventure™ game in nine chapters developed by Team Clopas.

Based on the wildly popular best-selling book, Mossflower, and second in the twenty-two book series by Brian Jacques, this interactive tale immerses the Player in the exploits and redemption of Gillig the otter as he tries to overcome his weaknesses, limited resources, and the menace of the monstrous water rat Gloomer.

Before Redwall™ Abbey, there was Kotir Castle, an abandoned fortress built over a large lake near the River Moss. It was taken over by the wildcat Verdauga Greeneyes and his Thousand Eyes army of vermin. Upon his untimely demise, his daughter Tsarmina began her evil rule. Subjugating the woodland inhabitants of Mossflower, this cruel Queen reigned using the army of a Thousand Eyes to collect food tribute from the peaceful forest dwellers. In her arsenal was a very special living weapon. A murderous insane creature kept deep in the bowels of the castle. Captured by her father, Gloomer the Greatrat was rightly feared by all. In these ancient days lived mighty heroes such as Martin the Warrior and Gonff Prince of Mousethieves.

Now our would be champion, Gillig directed by the otter leader Skipper, has been given a very special solo mission. Retrieve an ancient scroll once belonging to Verdauga. On the verge of being exiled from the otter crew, Gillig sees this as an opportunity to prove himself to the otter tribe – if he can overcome his weaknesses.

Your story begins with a descent down a rope into a ruined otter holt near Kotir Castle. What happens next will be totally up to you.

First off, I have not played many text based video games so I can't compare it to other games of the same style, However I AM a big fan of the redwall series, so that is something I can base this review on. So this game is set during the events of the book 'Mossflower'. As a Redwall fan it's been good fun playing through this game, and seeing lots of little references to the book (as well as some non-related easter eggs). The game does not contradict any of the events in the book either, which is a big plus. The writers have done a great job making it feel like Redwall in the style of writing, so if you are a fan of redwall I would recommend you pick this game up. As of 'Gameplay', as I said before I'm not very well versed in Text based video games, but from what I can see the Devs have done a good job keeping everything somewhat linear, laying out options for you while still giving you the control, instead of just telling you what to do the entire time. There is an auto-hint system t...

Another fantastic installment in the Lost Legends of Redwall series. If you ever read the Redwall books, you will love the way this game captures the very essence of Redwall's atmosphere. The story is great, and the way it weaves in and out of the story in Mossflower, interacting with main characters without changing the storyline is nothing short of genius. The puzzles are hard enough to make you think, but easy enough that you won't give up. I was really disappointed when I finished the game because I wanted the experience to last forever. I seriously recommend that you try this game. It's well worth your time.

Text adventures have come a long way since the '80s in design, and this one incorporates a lot of the best of the modern-day genre. The game always being winnable is taken for granted these days, and this particular one has an interesting way to balance out risky and dangerous situations in the story. Additionally, the lack of compass orientations, at one point a key feature of most text adventures, is more than made up for by the emphasis on locations and their positions relative to each other. It was a major breakthrough for me when I realized that I could revisit locations in one step, instead of having to repeatedly type in the same commands to go from one room to another. The puzzles are tricky, but basically fair. A lot of adventure games have puzzles that are really very arbitrary and involve unintuitive leaps of logic, or reading the author's mind, or just clicking every item in your inventory on everything until something takes. Here, while I didn't figure out every puzzle o...

This adventure recalls the classic text games of the past, but with added dimensions of voice acting, sound effects, and music. It occurs in parallel to the tale of Mossflower, and immerses the player in the story by allowing you to choose what happens next. Great fun.

This is a fun game, with many challenges in store for Gillig the otter. A bit too hard, but nothing we couldn't handle. Thanks to the devs for fixing my downloading issues!

There are too few Redwall games in the world. This one really scratches the itch.

Text based puzzle adventure with a decent length to it, writing and narrative on par with the Redwall universe. The static paintings are gorgeously made, but could probably do with changing more frequently to reflect the player's current position whenever there is backtracking. I want more of these.
