spent 100 bucks on this when it first came out expecting it to be as good as the beta was with the feedback we gave taken into account it was not and now it's a dead game where you're forced to play online so you can't even find a match anymore lmao
To start with, I think this game is really, really fun! After many patches, fixes, and DLC, I think this game is definitely worth playing if you're into zombie/horde shooters. I was a big fan of Left 4 Dead, and had high hopes for this game because it seemed like it had a lot of potential. It tried, and failed to be a L4D successor, and got a not-undeservedly bad reputation because of it. It had a pretty bad release. But currently, I find myself having a lot more fun with this game than I do L4D. I feel like its realized its potential now. The card deck building system, while appearing complicated at first, is actually simple to learn and get into. You can make all kinds of different builds with different weapons. The shooting and guns feel excellent. Its a ton of fun to mow stuff down, and if you're not into guns, you can go full melee build and play like a tank berserker. Its awesome. The game is tricky to get the hang of at first, but I find the challenge satisfying to overcome....
The game started out good. I really enjoyed the graphics and the infected. It feels like what left 4 dead 3 could have been. I took a long break after a while and came back when i got the game for a friend. we played for a few hours and started it up today to play a campaign when we both get a "online game cannot be started because of an anti cheat violation." with no point to where the issue is. We have never nor will ever cheat. and at the base of it who would cheat on a linear zombie game. But the point is that this issue has been in the game since launch from the research ive done. we have gone through every fix possible and still nothing. So i do not recommend under any circumstances due to the neglect the devs have to update nor fix the game. This is a blatant money grab and dip from the devs seeking the hype left over from the old zombie games. NEVER BUY THIS GAME.
Pathetic UI, overcomplicated deck and "Cards" system. This game is shit, play LFD2.
Didn't like it. I think this game would be better off without all the live service crap. Left 4 dead 2 was good because it was simple, having a limited number of lives, deck system, Characters with unique ability's serve only to make the game needlessly complicated, hard to get into and most importantly to me is that it breaks immersion. I tried this because it was 90% off. I don't think anyone should pay full price for this.
There are much better zombie co op games out there. Left 4 dead, World war Z, just to name a few. Only get this game on sale if you really want to.
I'm generally pretty forgiving of flaws in games but this game was disappointing. It just feels bad to play IMO. You don't get great feedback when you're getting hit from behind, boss enemies feel pretty easy to kill but are incredibly tanky, and all in all the game feels not great to play along with the card system which feels like a chore to use. It's impossible not to compare it to L4D2 it's the same dev with a nearly identical gameplay style. L4D2 came out 16 years ago and manages to be a lot more fun and polished than Back 4 Blood. It's not bad because it's not L4D I was fully expecting a different experience but what I got wasn't a different experience but a far worse feeling one.
This game had an incredibly amount of hate for something that was OBJECTIONABLY a better gameplay experience than LFD2. Several years later however, with DLC, growing pains, and some patches later, this is absolutely a great experience best played with friends
The game has a lot of issues, like every build needing to squat it's way through every level to avoid hurting other players. How a group of quick players likely have zero chance together, if no 'healer' is available. Additionally, i found out that after an especially long stretch of playing that if I leave game, it pulls the person in my lobby with me. So they get screwed out of playing further. It's not Left 4 Dead, it's not Vermintide 2, it's not that good. The game has one way to play every build... you drag your ass across the whole map. There's a lot here to like, but a lot to just not want to deal with. There's a reason this game never got a sequel, and most everyone forgot it exists. In short, this game sucks.
