This is a totally fun, unique, and addictive Schmup concept! Absolutely hooked after my first 5 matches. The cyberpunk aesthetic and music totally nails it too. I'm always thinking about how badly we need more quality schmups so I'm really happy to say Star99 nicely scratches that itch.

Really enjoying Star99 so far, great music, graphics and gameplay! After my first competitive match online I had to get my hand replaced due to clicking the mouse at super sonic speeds - may play better on the controller. Only thing that is lacking is a decent player base. However as another reviewer mentioned the game is still quite fun with small lobbies and it seems that this is something the developers are looking to fix - with an upcoming mobile release (game is cross platform capable) and regular news updates. Would love to see the PC only queue temporarily disabled until there is a steady player-base. Also offers options for remote, local play, and private matches (with or without bots). I think this game is a great value and I love booting it up for a quick match to kill some time! :)
Very fun competitive shmup
Don't buy until the free to play versions get released. There is no one playing this and the bots are so bad they cram themselves into a wall and die. Which is a shame because the gameplay is really fun and the soundtrack is amazing. Once it gets a playerbase it'll easily be worth its asking price and more.
Warning: Dead PVP Game This game has no meaningful single player content, and no playable PvP servers. There is no functioning PvP population, it's a dead game, and cannot be played as intended.
Star99 is yet another of literally hundreds of amateur 2D retro arcade bullet hell/shoot 'em ups infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. The core gameplay is immediately stale and uninteresting and a key reason this failed hard. The developers tried something new, they tried to add a PvP element and "Battle Royale" mode that really didn't blend well with the old dead arcade genre. The focus of the game is pure PvP, there's no single player content. The developer gambled that other players would be an acceptable substitute for adding storytelling, level design etc to the game. The vast majority of PvP-only games fail because they don't "go viral", and without players, or single player content to add a lasting value to the g...
This game is really a good game... A shame that there isn't a player base as of yet... When the Free-to-play version is released, I expect there will be battles upon battles underway to figure out, whose shump game is truly real. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for this!!!!
This SHMUP Battle Royale game can definitely be a bigger game if more players got into this game. Different characters, skills and with good competition, this game can be fun!
This isn't the kind of game I usually like but I honestly had a blast with this, the competitive system aspect makes things very interesting even when I only have bots to play against.
Fun little game. There aren't a whole lot of people that play this right now, but it is still quite fun playing in a private queue with just bots. Unfortunately there aren't any players to play, and is get to get enough reviews for anyone to pay attention to it.
