  • Episode 2: The Earth Explodes (1991)
  • Episode 3: Keen Must Die! (1991)

When Billy learns that the Earth is in danger, he dons his brother's football helmet and his homemade interstellar spaceship to become Commander Keen -- Defender of the Earth!

Commander Keen in Goodbye Galaxy!:
  • Episode 4: Secret of the Oracle (1991)
  • Episode 5: The Armageddon Machine (1991)
You are eight-year-old Billy Blaze, boy genius to your neighborhood. Commander Keen to the rest of the universe. To prevent the obliteration of life as we know it, you'll have to battle your way past deadly hazards and devious creatures, or end up as space toast.

I have played and finished the 5 games collected here (which is unfortunately not the "complete" collection) for the first time in 2025. I had no prior experience with Keen games, so I think I'm qualified to give a verdict on them without nostalgia affecting my judgement. The Keen games have stood the test of time surprisingly well. Their game design and level design is top-notch. The games don't suffer from the stupid difficulty of the 80s and 90s game (even on hard difficulty), but they are difficult and reaching certain collectibles that are placed in tricky positions is immensely satisfying. The first trilogy (Invasion of the Vorticons) shows its age more than the second duology (Goodbye Galaxy). It doesn't have music (like none), the visual design is rougher and simpler and generally, many of the challenges are based on Keen's clunky movement. However, that's enjoyable in itself. Goodbye Galaxy is a huge leap forward. We're talking about "Wolfenstein 3D to Doom" kind o...

Wonderful DOS platformer which was heavily inspired by Mario Bros 3 and Mega Man 2. It was living proof that PCs could be a viable gaming platform alongside Nintendo. This version runs great, you just may need to play with the settings to get the pixels to show correctly without blurring.

This is a classic game. If you didn't know Commander keen is related to DOOM and Wolfenstein. Look into it! Fun and good platformer. Replaying it made me realize its still very playable. No real issues in controls. Graphics are dated now but could easily be spruced up by some modders out there.

Before I got this, I played 4-6 long time ago. 1-3 are probably a bit harder and some maps can be a bit unfair, but all doable after some training. 4-6 are overall better and still fairly challenging in hard mode. Just wondering why is 6th game missing, so technically not Complete pack then, right?
