It's a good game. Seems ironed out, finished and beautiful. BUT. I've spent four and a half hours to get this game to run. And I've given up multiple times inbetween. Reason is a third party software Ubisoft Disconnect that is mandatory to install but you will get stuck while trying to get an account and play this game. For hours. Which is an unnecessary waste of my and your free time.

Actually a sick world building game. Like a mix of Sim City/Civ. Lots of fun to be had. Only downside is it's Ubisoft and there's somehow $400 in DLC.

"Unable to start the game, This product cannot be activated right now, please try again later." Look, I'm a father of two small children. I don't get to pick the time I get to play games. So when the game can't start because Ubisoft can't keep its licensing tech working, I just can't play. I paid to own this game, and they so "no not right now." Fuck you, Ubisoft.

To overcome the activation code problem, you gotta close Steam and start the Ubisoft connect game launcher first then start the game. do this once and then you can link the Ubisoft account with Steam account for a somewhat more streamline. the game will require Ubisoft launcher to start the game, but if the accounts are linked you will be able to start if from Steam. Home page immediately lets you know you don't have any DLC's and then again when starting a campaign. but for the A$8.99 i can turn a blind eye on the DLC's being pushed. As for the game play, I have only spent 30 mins "playing" by figuring out hot to launch the game more streamline. so i cant say much about the game play yet. will update this later.

Ubisoft Connect is so incredible useless, that I can more than often not play the game, especially in offline mode.

Couldn't get through the launcher. Needed a key. When I play video games, I don't want to work. I don't want to share personal information like an email address (new one given) or my date of birth (false one given). I don't want to have to look around for a key to activate the game separately from the Steam interface. I bought it, meaning all I have to do is click "play." I do not remember the last time I played an Ubisoft game, perhaps in fifteen years. For $6 bucks, Anno looked interesting, but the setup process is a joke in terms of functionality and on principle. Ubisoft can take a hike and I'll keep my money. There are too many other great studios with good games that call to me. Silver lining: I discovered I had an old Ubisoft account from years ago, which I was just able to delete permanently. Thanks Ubisoft!

Anno 1800 is arguably the best city builder ever made. And before you bite my head off, yeah I know, Ubisoft and their damn launcher. But seriously, I feel like it's one of the best city builders in the modern day. The campaign and scenarios are great too, i rarely wanna play scenarios in other games but here you almost have a completely different experince than in sandbox fex. You are not just building for the sake of building; everything has its purpose, and if you overbuild, you will pay dearly for it. The DLCs add so much variation on top. At some point, it feels like you are spinning 20 plates at once, and it's great. Nice art design, music, and that iconic 19th-century industrial feel to the characters. And did I mention pirates? The masses of different resources make me get factory game vibes. Anno 1800 is so many things other than just a city builder, but it does city building very well. I'm pretty sure if you like city building games and you give Anno 1800 with all its main DL...

Couldn't even play the game because I had to sign up for Ubisoft Connect which took an insane amount of effort only to be met with "please enter your activation code" which I didn't get with the game! I am requesting a refund and I never want to see this game again...

Stupid brainless monkeys who created Uplay, activate a key in your only brain cell and finally fix the issue with launching your games through Steam if you’re going to sell them there. How much of a moron do you have to be to still not have fixed this problem after so many years? I hope the degenerates responsible for Uplay end up living in poverty for the rest of their lives. Though they’re already cursed by life itself, which gave them 0 IQ
