This game needs some reviews on its page, who knew it would fall flat like this? Yumori Forest is a melee focused roguelite(lite). While Ruin of the Reckless goes for a more aggresive approach to combat, this game takes the more methodical side. The gameplay is very simple. Find 3-4 lanterns in each level, activate them, and kill enemies along the way. The occasional boss fight as well. It does this with pure simplicity, doesn't ask you to do much else with upgrades or anything else. You upgrade a few different stats at the end of each level, and there's a couple permenant upgrades in the menu to grab (I don't think any of them are actually required to win, which is a nice change of pace). It's more arcadey and less about items and decision making. That can either be seen as a great thing, or turn away potential players. The enemies are pretty varied in their attack and dodging patterns. Yes, the ai dodges around a bit, but not enough to make them too crazy. Since you'll be killing...

Yumori Forest can be a decent roguelite around $5, but it lacks the variety to justify its $10 price tag. The game has limited visibility which changed depending on how much health you have left. I personally found its "fog of war" very atmospheric, although it can be somewhat frustrating when enemies hit you from blind spots. Yumori is only 40MB so it obviously has a minimalistic art and sound design. I like the look of the game but the levels tend to get repetitive due to the lack of visual variety. The combat is extremely basic. You get one sword attack, dash, super attack, and projectile. Also, you can bow to the enemies after defeating them which recovers some of your HP (I thought it was a very cute mechanic). Between each level, you can spend your currency on one of four stats that increase basic attributes such as speed, damage, stamina and life. While in the main menu, you can also unlock permanent bonuses and a few other trinkets. Overall, the game does not have en...
Well it's not easy
Quick Score: 4/5 Notes: Relatively short and simple action/arcade game. Normal mode is a decent challenge and can be completed on average in around 3 hours probably. Hard mode is pretty brutal and a pretty insane step up in difficulty from normal.
The bare visuals with bright pink blood is beautiful. As the lantern keeper it's your job to ignite the lanterns and light up the forest. However, there's a gang trying to stop you. Starting off the combat is tricky since you don't know what the enemies do. But as you learn it becomes much easier to expect their movements. They always do the same thing based on the enemy type. Meaning Yumori Forest lands close to the "Git Gud" line of thinking. Keep in mind, you are fighting the darkness too. At least a little bit. Meeting enemies out in the open where the forest is darkest is suicide. Not being able to see enemies wind up their attack animations makes it difficult. Such as when the spear enemies attack in their line. If they start in a dark area it can seem like they come out of no where. Especially since your zone of light shrinks as your health drops. Yumori Forest is great! The visuals and tight controls make it a ton of fun to play. I really enjoyed it. Video review: htt...
Yes! I've been eyeing this game for a while and I'm glad I finally went for it. This game is brutal and cool and slick and rough in all the right ways. This is really something special, and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface. I'm looking forward to learning more.
Low Key Wish more people played this game since its really fun, solid 5/7
An absolutely beautiful fun game. I would highly recommend it to anyone. It has simple yet very depthful combat and movement and the level design emphasizes that. The sound effects and music fit the game's theme perfectly, you can tell from every detail that passion was poored into this project. Wonderful game feel, navigating menus feels nice not to mention the usage of it for combat where hitting enemies with your sword feels very nice and has a weight to it. The artstyle is wonderful as well, like the combat simple but also very fitting. Beautiful is the perfect word for this game, as every aspect of it could be described with that. Everything from the sound to the combat its all just beautiful. This is a brilliant game. My only grip is the boss fight (the first one at least as its the only one I've seen) is just terrible. Its not a great test of the player's skill and all it is is frustrating and annoying, its a stain on an otherwise amazing game. Once again, would reco...
Yumori Forest is a great little gem of a game. Great artsytle, a combat system both fun and challenging, and it's own identity. The overall amount of content is relatively small, so the $10 price tag may be a bit high for some, but it scratched a similar itch to Hyper Light Drifter and was made by one dude, so I think it's well worth supporting
I really enjoyed the game!
