I so want to like the game, but there is so much about it which is totally frustrating. The lack of tutorials is totally galling. You select a quest to go to an area and fight something. The rating of the battle should be easy. You get there and you scout, and the game gives you some symbols but no clue what they mean, or how you interact with them. Then you do the fight and find the enemies are impervious to your damage. No clue as to why, or how your meant to fight them. Total frustration! I#m trying to push the story along to improve my followers, but keep running out of money, so having to grind more money constantly. The Market guide is garbage, so doesn't help at all.

About the Game

Vagrus is an award-winning roleplaying game with a narrative focus, open-world exploration, and strong elements of strategy. The player takes the role of a vagrus - a caravan leader who strives to survive in a strange and perilous dark fantasy world by leading a traveling company on all kinds of ventures.

A vast realm is yours to explore, filled with unique locations, strange factions, and a colorful cast of characters. In order to punish the Empire for its sins, the Elder Gods unleashed their power a thousand years ago that resulted in the devastation of the realms. The continent is now a wasteland, riddled with arcane anomalies, swarming with twisted monsters, and haunted by roaming undead even after long centuries of rebuilding.

A large selection of stories make up the game’s narrative in the form of events, encounters, and quests. The choices you make in these often affect your companions as well as the world around you. Pick your background from trader, mercenary, or explorer; work for factions, pursue rumors and trading opportunities; acquire wealth, gain fame, and discover hidden knowledge.

Engage in turn-based, tactical combat that involves your companions and a large variety of enemies, both humanoid and monstrous. Use a wide range of character skills as well as your own leadership-related abilities to succeed. Positioning and support skills are of paramount importance in these challenging engagements.

Journeys have to be planned and prepared for carefully, lest they end in disaster. Manage your supplies, morale, and your crew’s vigor effectively to survive. Haul cargo and valuables across the wasteland or take it from others. Your crew of workers, fighters, scouts, and slaves have to be supervised closely to optimize their effectiveness.

A wide variety of companions can work for you in versatile caravan roles, such as scoutmaster, guard captain, treasure hunter, or beast handler. Each companion comes with unique combat skills, background stories, and personal quest lines that can upgrade them further when you complete them.

Ally yourself with mighty factions that shape the Riven Realms with their influence on commerce, brutal wars, and their constant intrigue. From prosperous Trading Houses to criminal syndicates and religious organizations, these groups offer powerful rewards and boons to those loyal to their cause. But take heed - befriending a faction will more than likely antagonize some of the others.

Holy hell the forced tutorial is unbearable. This isn't some game that revolutionizes gaming experience. Its just another game in the genre with some "differences". They don't need to walk you through the basic concepts when they are in hundreds of others. Might be a good game but I don't have the patience to get passed the handholding at the start! "Hey, here's the map of the area. I know you're walking to this place, but why don't you click on the map to mark the place you're walking to, ya know, so we know you know where you're going. Did you click the button to mark the place you're going? No? Well you can't get out of map mode until you do." Holy Hera take me to Tartarus!
This is a complex but mostly rewarding game that forces you to manage resources (particularly supplies) while you wander around a blasted wilderness. I enjoy the balance of quests, crew combat, and companion combats along with the business management aspects. Some of the quests are tedious (sunken library, tectum carvos) and some feel wildly unbalanced for no obvious reason (e.g., Sedarias:Renegade). Mostly, I've enjoyed it as you can tell by the >150 hours I've put in so far. (And after 150 hours, I think I'm close to being able to move forward with Gor Goro's questline--yay!)
Your favourite game is very unlikely to be popular or easy to find. This game won't appeal to 90% of players that try it, but those that do will really like it. If you look at the trailer and get intrigued then play the demo: the tutorial ain't great, but if you still want to play the main game then you're definitely going to love this game, and this whole process is gonna cost you one whole hour. Some games are too good to be popular
This is an incredible game. A great mix of RPG and strategy. In the mold of the old Sid Meyer's Pirates, the original early 90s Dune. It is a great strategy game where you command a caravan in a late Roman Empire like magical world. Other games that come to me as having similarities - with more emphasis on the RPG or the strategy genre depending on which one - Mount and Blade series, Rimworld, Crusader Kings... If you like any of these you should enjoy this well put together indie gem.
Great game.
A M A Z I N G This. This is what I wanted out of computer RPGs since I've first found out they were a thing! If you are an old nerd who likes old-school, sincere fantasy and tabletop games that are NOT D&D, and have nothing to do with it thank fuck for that (unless you want to make a case for Dark Sun being an inspiration on this game, but then -- I don't think it was the only one...) then you owe yourself to play this game.
