About This Game

The Call is an indie horror puzzle game that puts you in the place of a police officer in America. You respond to a domestic disturbance call which ends up being a trap that makes you go through some unpleasant experiences.

Use your service pistol to protect yourself from hostile atrocities, break wooden boards with your baton, solve some puzzles and you might escape this hell hole.

ABOUT THE GAME

  • The game can last up to 1-2 hours depending on how you play.
  • It contains minor jumpscares, enemies that chase you which can be killed using your pistol and some quality puzzles.
  • The game saves which Level you are on but does not save what Checkpoint you have reached on that Level. If you restart the game, you will start from the beginning of the saved level. Keep that in mind and try to complete this game in one sitting.

I've only played about an hour of this and not finished it at the time of writing, but wanted to write a bit about it. There's a level select screen in the game which implies I'm around half-way through the game, so it's probably not tremendously long, but then again this game is only a dollar, and the hour I've played I've enjoyed. This game does not rely on jumpscares, has a simple but appealing (to me) style, actually is scary at times through atmosphere, audio, and I think has some neat ideas. This actually is not a defenseless horror game, you do have a gun at the start and shortly also get a baton, and a third and fourth item a bit later for as far as I've played. While you're not defenseless, this isn't an action horror game either as enemies are sparse. It's basically a cryptic horror puzzle game, there's very little dialogue or much in the form of a story from what I've played so far, you seem to be a cop exploring a house and there's environmental signs of a story, but not m...

Look, folks, I've given recommendations to some pretty mediocre stuff before (see: Into the Gloom). I like the first person pixel horror games that have cropped up on Steam thanks to the unique atmosphere they give (See: Into the Gloom, and particularly IMSCARED). I don't mind challenge, either, and I don't need things spelled out for me. I was drawn into The Call by its dirt cheap asking price, pixel atmosphere, and very intriguing premise. And for a short while, I was digging it. You are a cop who is called in on a domestic disturbance in a secluded mansion. You have a gun, a baton, and a few other items that you get later on as well. As soon as you step in the house, things get a little weird, with shifting geography and stuff like that. Like I said above, for a while, I was digging it. It wasn't as atmospheric as something like IMSCARED or Cry of Fear, but it had its moments. The first puzzle was kind of frustrating, but I pressed on. The next puzzle felt kind of tedious, but I ...

My hopes were not high because of all of the poorly written and misguided reviews below me, but I truly believe I have found a diamond in the rough. The main game kept me engaged throughout its puzzle THAT IF YOU CANT SOLVE WITHOUT HELP YOU RE BAD and SKILL ISSUE but then after that you get to go achievement hunting with geoff and gavin and everyone else its just a great time. All in all go check out my speedrun for the game and let's get it boys
