GOD EATER 3

Don't bother. Gameplay is extremely repetitive, with little variation on the maps and monsters. The comparison to Monster Hunter is obvious, since you need to constantly go out and hunt creatures to get parts to upgrade/assemble weapons. The problem, at least for me, is that the narrative very clearly emphasizes human enemies ([spoiler]there's a literal order to sacrifice you and all your friends for 'the greater good' as well as thousands of others[/spoiler]) and you never actually fight against any of these threats. Every single time, without fail, the narrative will instead make some monster show up and make you fight against it, and then moves on like nothing ever happens. On top of all of this, the cutscenes drag on forever and are full of clear emotional manipulation which falls flat since all the conflict magically goes away due to cutscenes and you never face the problems causing emotional turmoil headon.

Remember how Fifty Shades of Gray was a a Twilight fanfic turned into an original story? Well, God Eater 3 is a God Eater fanfic that was just stapled on as canon instead. In fact, the original devs- Shift- were barely involved in this game, which makes it even worse. Where is Shift? They don't exist anymore, and they aren't credited anymore on Steam despite their name/logo still popping up on intros for their games. After background help with Freedom Wars and then being pushed to make Code Vein to appease Bamco's Souls obsession, God Eater 3 was apparently handled by the devs of Senran Kagura instead. If that doesn't tell you all you need to know, then just take it as a sign to not get this game. I managed to get it for less than five bucks on a bundle sale thanks to owning GE2/Res, and even that is too much. Battle system shows it's age but it was fun and cool concept. My first God Eater, wish there was a 4. Story was a little weak overall but acceptable for the game style. Would have like to see more details into the world and variety of monsters.

Better game than GE Resurrection and GE 2

God Eater has always been an underrated franchise, living in the shadow of Monster Hunter ever since its PSP days. But for me, it holds a special place in my heart. God Eater 3 continues the formula of the series—fast-paced hunting action, anime-style storytelling, and over-the-top weapons—while introducing new mechanics and weapon types. It still feels like a God Eater game at its core. The story is solid and interesting, though it feels like it ends too quickly. NPC interactions are fine (though God Eater 2 still has the best cast by far), and the new Aragami designs are fun to fight. The additional combat systems make battles smoother and more dynamic, though in some ways it feels easier than previous entries. My only real gripe is the protagonist—compared to the MCs of GE1 and GE2, the player character here feels a bit lackluster and less impactful in the overall story. Still, I had a great time.
