About the Game

HACK, SLASH, ASCEND. Lucah: Born of a Dream is a harrowing struggle through our worst nightmares.

You have been MARKED, cursed to have your inner demons come to life as vicious Nightmares. After awakening a false god, you must atone. Traverse the hellish realm of dreams, endure the nightmare onslaught, and uncover the strength to accept yourself.

Master a deep combat system that blends ranged- and melee-action with rich customization. Explore an atmospheric world of repressed memories and unspeakable feelings. Lay waste to the Nightmares in a kinetic flurry of beautiful violence.

 • Striking colors and evocative linework elicit a surreal sense of ambiguity and tension.
 • Mix and match different Attack Mantras to create an endless variety of flashy combos.
 • Befriend Familiars and use their ranged magic to turn the course of battle.
 • Personalize your character with Virtues like slow-motion dodges, stunning parries, or vampiric attacks.
 • Use Rewinds to instantly retry a battle you were failing to achieve better results.

This game is very much an amazing experience while remaining a confusing one. I may not entirely understand the story, but I feel the meaning behind it and that was always enough to keep pushing me forwards. The combat is excellent with a graphic style that creates a surprisingly beautiful atmosphere. Very rarely do I ever strive to get every ending in a game, and this was one of those games. Now having beaten the game numerous times and having seen all three endings (at least, that I know of), I can say without a doubt that this is a truly vital experience with a heartfelt core. Thank you for making this game.

The dialogue reads like it was written by a Bernie Sanders voter that didn't like their parents. Thematically it's really cool, and some of the combat/encounters are enjoyable, but everything in the game world looks identical and non-descript, and the camera's always too zoomed-in, so navigation and exploration is confusing and un-fun. Control's also constantly taken away whenever you beat most rooms, which gets old fast. May give it another try, but I'm probably gonna refund it. You may like this game if you're a Redditor that doesn't like their parents, and thinks Dark Souls is hard.

TL:DR: It's a good game BUT if you don't know what you're getting into, this might be a rough journey.
Good :

Combat system, with interesting synergies, builds, customization and incentive to master it.
Quick game, I finished it 3 times, taking my time on my first and second playthrough and I have 10h as of writing this review.
Accessibility options in the form of "infinite stamina/charge/etc" options.
Sound. Globally fits the game, especially the combat, adds so much weight to the hits, the necessary juice.

It depends

Visual style, I don't know what half of the things depicted were supposed to be. Although the style fits the theme and is used in smart ways, it sometimes feels lazy.
Thematics. This game is dark and tortured with hints of beauty. A bit cliché, a very personnal story, even though its writing can be pretty, it feels amateurish.
The corruption system. I personnally liked it and reached track 8 wi...

Chalk souls with some visual novel. Beat the game on challenge difficulty on a Macbook with touchpad. The combat feels so good.
