About This Game

ROME REMASTERED includes the Alexander and Barbarian Invasion DLCs, as well as a copy of the original ROME: Total War Collection* if you don’t already own it.

Improved Visuals
ROME REMASTERED brings the classic Rome visuals up to date, with 4K optimization**, ultra-widescreen and native UHD resolution** support. This visual upgrade extends across a multitude of features, including re-modelled buildings and objects, and environmental effects like dust clouds and heat haze. The refreshed campaign maps also boast new high-resolution models, and units have been remodelled and retextured to look their very best on the battlefield.

Modern Features
ROME REMASTERED includes a host of modern features and improvements to existing mechanics. The in-game camera has been enhanced, including map rotation and wider zoom level in Campaign mode. Heat maps and new icon overlays have been added for gameplay mechanics such as diplomacy and security. In Battle, the new tactical map, unit displays and range markers give you greater command over Rome’s battlefields.

Enhanced Game Mechanics
Players can now expand their armies and experience 16 additional factions that were previously locked, giving a grand total of 38 playable factions. In a first for Total War, you can now take your favourite faction to battle against friends in cross-platform multiplayer between Windows, macOS and Linux. A whole new agent type has also been added to the fray; Merchants can be sent all over the world to create trade links, access resources and buy out rivals to increase your income and assert your faction’s economic power.

*Please note, ROME: Total War Collection is only playable on Windows.

**4K enhancements unlocked by downloading Enhanced Graphics Pack

This isn't how you do a remaster. I'm sorry, but the U.I. is a nightmare and I haven't been able to force myself through another full game after clearing it once. I have recently replayed the original, and honestly it works just fine, and the battle really (in my head at least) look better. I don't know if it is my age, but I really want them to remaster MTW2, and go back to making games with these combat mechanics. I wish that this worked better, and lead to a renaissance, but apparently it didn't.

Not sure why the graphics designers felt the need to change some of the helmet, armour and shield design, 99% of which looks much worst than the original. The design team had one job... just upscale; increase texture resolution and update the original low poly models... Blah... (referencing the Brutii intro, I have the same contempt for the changes as the Brutii has for the Julii) Anyways, if the team wanted to make changes or add something new, just add a coop campaign... All those should come with the base game, and not for users to download various mods.

I am middle aged. My top 10 games is pretty well set. I played aoe growing up. I never imagined a game would break into my top 10 this late. Bought this game as a history buff. I was not expecting to fall in love with the gameplay -> the simplicity and depth. I preferred the remastered version thanks to the QOL. Since I had not played the original I did not know what the remaster decided to set aside. It is a beautiful mix of campaign and tactical battles. I play on easy as I don't have much time but it still provided a decent challenge and I find myself using chatgpt to discuss strategies (my friends are not gamers any more sadly) while at work. The empire management is not so overwhelming that I feel like I am fighting a spreadsheet but deep enough to keep me engaged. Particularly I am happy that there is no accent on stats buffs and modifiers -> it feels intuitive and alive. I especially love the mechanic by which I can build forts on the map to garrison troops in -> this gen...

Rome 2 Total War was released almost a decade before this "remaster", and still has vastly superior graphics and user interface. I thought I'm getting the classical R:TW game, with modern graphics. Instead I got a completely outdated 2004 game (that's the year original R:TW was released), with a "modern HD graphics mod" someone slapped on it, and charging full price as if this was a 2021 game. Extremely disappointed here - and will be asking for a refund.

Ran decently on my docked steam deck, with KB and mouse. The UI is a little frustrating, but it's playable. I had 2 crashes in a full Alexander campaign.

Its like the classic version. They just made some minor improvements. A little better graphics. Better AI. And changed where you click to open the build menus. Except having to figure out how you open the unit & building tabs and buy/build stuff. I love it just like the old version. Just this version seems smoother with the better AI and the improved public order (less riots) change.

No blood. Terrible redesigns. Look at the spartan hoplites if you literaly want to lol. The SPARTAN Hoplites look like women in red dresses. The lack of detail buying this years after it came out......shameful. Again modders are just gona pick up the slack right? They will never make a TWM3 because they are not capable of it. The devs that made it were long ago replaced with dei. Absurd crap like Pontus cant build bathhouses!? ANd i could go on for pages what this improved version messes up. I played for an hour and just nonstop f ups. Even the new UI is so iphone style and unituitive. I was about to play then stopped myself and sed "wtf just go play Rome 2 dei mod it is better in every single possible way". TBF it looks like they did some cool new things with the barbarians (expansion) and emergent factions. But still in Atilla i can burn things. I might return this. Oh yeah and it seems to be very mod unfriendly modders are having constant issues from what im reading. So yeah the gam...
