About This Game

XCOM: Chimera Squad delivers an all-new story and turn-based tactical combat experience in the XCOM universe.

After years of alien rule, humanity won the war for Earth. But when the Overlords fled the planet, they left their former soldiers behind. Now, five years after the events of XCOM 2, humans and aliens are working together to forge a civilization of cooperation and coexistence.

Welcome to City 31, a model of peace in a post-invasion world. However, not all of Earth's inhabitants support interspecies alliance. Chimera Squad, an elite force of human and alien agents, must work together to destroy the underground threats driving the city toward chaos.

Your agents are unique: each of them equipped with special tactical abilities and driven by a different motivation for joining Chimera Squad. Deploy targeted team members to investigate and combat the dangers that pervade the districts of City 31. Lead Chimera Squad through a new experience that innovates on XCOM's turn-based legacy, utilizing strategy, teamwork, and new breach-and-clear gameplay to complete your mission objectives.

The future of City 31 depends on you.

Unique Alien and Human Agents

Each of the 11 agents have their own distinct personality and tactical abilities, including species-specific attacks like the Viper’s tongue pull.

Specialized and Complementary Classes

Execute devastating combos by teaming the right agents and utilizing cooperative actions. The difference between mission success and failure can depend wholly on team composition.

Re-Envisioned Tactical Combat

Missions are structured as a series of discrete, explosive encounters, keeping the action intense and unpredictable.

Breach Mode

Shape the battlefield to your advantage with a new combat phase that injects your squad right into action. Strategically assign your agents to different entry points and coordinate their assault with a range of Breach-specific skills.

Interleaved Turns

An automatic initiative system slots individual agents and enemies into an alternating turn order, creating new strategic possibilities based on what unit is queued to act next—and what unit is at the greatest risk when they do.

Suspenseful Strategy Layer

Outside of combat, manage the operations of a high-tech HQ, where you must prioritize competing tasks, investigations, and agent assignments in the face of a ticking clock: the constantly rising unrest in the city’s various districts, driving City 31 closer and closer to total anarchy.

While this is not XCOM 3 it is fun, scaled down to policing a city after XCOM 2 your agents have unique abilities that make for some fun combinations the encounters keep the combat very fast paced and make the game have some re-playability. it is impossible to get all trophies on one play through as you will get random characters and some missions are different depending on the order you conduct them. I can see why some people were slighty disappointed but this was a fun story with some interesting mechanics i just wish there was more.

The Game is fun to play at first but it get boring fast, the game play was okay but one thing i hated about it was that the enemies had better abilities than you, They get a 3 point shield for the entire team while you get 1 shield for 1 person or how they can summon 2 enemies and you can't. The story is okay nothing super good but it was okay for me. I got to the end of the game and i didn't even finish everything to research and didn't get to Promote everyone. There is NO new game plus so you can't replay the game once the end game missions pop up and you can't skip them either. Once you complete the 3 Main faction quests you're on the end part of the game. The game feels like it favors more the game enemies and not you. Research takes forever to do which is why you won't be able to complete it all and master crafted weapons ONLY adds 1 point of damage which after the research you have to buy the upgrade for it. Did i mention that it takes 6 days to complete it per weapon type and le...

It has some good aspects, but overall, it is frustrating to play. The story premise is interesting, however the characters are insufferable and the gameplay is somewhat worse than the Enemy Unknown/Within and Xcom 2/WOTC. Not a horrible game, but not good enough for me to sink significant hours into like the first two game. I would recommend replaying the first two games rather than playing this.

A step-back in XCOM, a step-forward in not XCOM

It's pretty good but there are a decent amount of little bugs in the game. The older Xcom's are more enjoyable but this is still a fun game.

The gameplay, story, designs, and characterisation are all inferior to the other XCOM games. I was very open to the idea of a more casual XCOM experience, but the execution of this game left much to be desired. Imagine you like Pepsi. Someone says they'll make you some PILK, so you get excited. Then it turns out they mixed in some gross nut-juice instead, so it ruined the entire drink. XCOM: Chimera Squad is that gross nut-infested concoction that ruined the the original, and failed to adequately deliver on the new premise as well.

Bite sized NUCOM at a bite sized price. I had a hard time clicking with newer XCOM titles for a while. I was too used to the gameplay of oldcom, time units, making sure I had enough time to prime and throw a grenade in the same turn, treating my soldiers like expendable assets; the usual oldcom formula. Something about the new games failed to stick with me for a long time, but I still picked this up. It ended up being a great decision on my part, because after spending some time with Chimera Squad, something "clicked". I grasped the formula. I understood. And then I went back and played both modern XCOM titles, and this time enjoyed my experience. So for that, Chimera Squad has earned a place in my heart. If you're a struggling grognard and want to know what the fuss is about with the newer XCOM titles, look no further. Chimera Squad is an excellent entry point. If you're experienced with modern XCOM titles and are wondering if this is worth a buy, you'll want to know that this is...

Some people hate this one, but I liked it. Short missions, no permanent squad member loss, cool tactical situations. It's like Tactical Breach Wizards, but less awesome, because you have to commit to every action. I wish the interface was better. Sometimes you are about to use all remaining ammo, but you have no idea how much you have left. And whether the UI is showing consequences of one shot or all of them.

While it's scaled down in scope compared to XCOM proper (especially if you got into Long War 2)... It's basically bite-sized XCOM, and totally worth playing. It's also nice seeing a timeline in which we get to see how Earth is recovering from the invasion. ...That said, why did they make the Xenos sound 100% human with zero voice modulation type stuff? It really would have added, I think.
