Wasteland Remastered – 100% Completion Review
All achievements earned, every quest resolved, all hidden locations found, all party builds tested Wasteland Remastered is a preservation effort before anything else. It is raw, eccentric, and historically important, especially for completionists who want to understand the roots of modern CRPGs. This is the 1988 classic that inspired Fallout, rebuilt with updated visuals and sound while keeping its original systems intact. It is a game that trusts you to figure things out. Completing it fully means reading carefully, mapping manually, and accepting that mistakes are permanent. The world is cruel, open-ended, and strange. You can miss entire questlines. Characters can die permanently. Some solutions are buried in odd phrasing or throwaway dialogue. But that unpredictability creates a sense of real consequence. Completion is not about checklisting, it is about survival and adaptation. Combat is clunky bu...

About This Game
The year is 2087, nearly a century after an all-out nuclear war turned vast swaths of the Earth into a radioactive hellscape. You are a Desert Ranger, a band of stalwart lawmen who are the only hope left in what was once the American southwest, and good people’s last defense against hunger, sickness, ravaging raiders, and mutants.
Now something more secretive and sinister is menacing humanity, and it's your job to investigate. Recruit help and follow leads—the choices you make will shape the world around you. Choose wisely, your life and the lives of those you’re sworn to protect depend on it.
- Wasteland Remastered retains the spirit of the original game while updating visuals and audio.
- The original game’s physical storybook is available in-game, fully illustrated and with full voice over.
- An expanded musical score from the "Wasteland 1 - The Original Classic" release.
- Old bugs that have been around since Reagan was president have been fixed.
- Survive the apocalypse from the comfort of your couch with game controller support.
- Quality of life improvements that make the post-apocalypse a little friendlier.

Without Wasteland there would be no Fallout. At times I hated this game. It's repetitive, frustrating, unnecessarily difficult and obtuse. It's confusing and not particularly pretty to look at and yet.... Here I am 85 hours of total playtime later. It's taken me a few attempts to beat the game, but beat it I have. There's something special about this game that kept bringing me back. If you're a gamer from a certain generation then i think you'll enjoy Wasteland. If you're a more modern gamer then you'll probably despise the game from the start and should avoid. Me personally however, will more than likely jump back in for another go and try out some different builds/solutions to the obstacles the game presents as you move forward.
Wasteland: Remastered is a fascinating piece of CRPG history, but it’s not easy to love. I was told to play this before diving into Fallout 1 since it laid the groundwork for it, and while I appreciate its legacy, the combat is painfully cumbersome - even as someone with years of CRPG experience. The upgraded graphics and sound do a solid job of modernizing the presentation, but the old school gameplay systems mostly seem untouched, and the overall charm wore off quickly. It scratched the nostalgia itch for a while, but I can’t say that it held me for long. This won't deter me from getting into the more modern Wasteland 2 and 3 games, though.
