About the Game

When FTL meets Foundation... and Dune

Crying Suns is a tactical rogue-lite that puts you in the role of a space fleet commander as you explore a mysteriously fallen empire.

In this story rich experience inspired by Dune and Foundation, each successful run will uncover the truth about the Empire... and yourself as well.

Main Features

- Space exploration in a procedurally-generated universe
- Tactical fights between battleships and their squadron fleets
- More than 300 possible story events
- A deep and dramatic storyline structured in 6 chapters
- A dark and disturbing atmosphere inspired by our favorite S-F universes (Foundation, Dune, Battlestar Galactica)

The story: The epic journey of a clone

After 700 years of peace and prosperity, the Galactic Empire has suddenly been shattered into pieces. The OMNIs, god-like machines which did everything for their human masters, have mysteriously shut down. And humankind, having long since lost the ability to survive on its own, is dangerously close to extinction. But somewhere in a far corner of the Galaxy is Gehenna, a planet of ice and rock and a top-secret facility that is the pinnacle of Imperial Tech and also humanity’s last chance.

You are a clone of Admiral Ellys Idaho, a weapon fashioned from flesh, the best Imperial Admiral ever to battle in the stars and you have just been awoken on this planet by its strange and darkly-humorous Guardian, Kaliban, the last functional OMNI to exist.

Your mission: skillfully command a battleship through the Empire's now chaotic, violent clusters ––where one wrong move could be your last–– as you try to reactivate the OMNIs and save the future of all humankind. But you must leave Gehenna now.... for time has almost run out.

RNG is the worst thing to happen to games, it ruins what would otherwise be great games. It's like the developer thought to themselves, "Hey we got a really fun game here, now how do we make it as frustrating as possible to play?" If you like playing rigged slot machines, rolling snake eyes, loosing in general, and find life isn't hard enough, then this games for you.

Clearly inspired by 'FTL' it struggles to create a grand universe, by shamelessly stealing ideas from Dune and other Sci-fi classics. Repetitive, frustrating, randomly cruel with the player. Some events are absurd, leaving a sensation of a narrator that just want to punish you. The idea to continuously reset from 'level 0' is original, and bad; you never feel empowered. The dialogues are boring and predictable - you will soon find yourself skipping them. The nail on the coffin are the land missions - a mini game in which you just 'see' your grunts die or success, with no control at all. I gave it more than a chance, but the game failed to entertain me.

its a good game but the gameplay loop gets repetitive really fast i got multiple endings because i was invested in the story, it was not worth it, not because its bad, but because theres so little of it

This game is just.... I have no words. The way you asked those philosophical questions the way you made those characters represent those ideas and thoughts it's just... great. The way you showed a man who is god compared to other people (Emperor) and then showed the true gods who acted in a way Emperor couldn't even imagine. The way you showed those ideas of free will (or its absence) on this smaller grounded level and how you showed these ideas of hope for humanity (Admiral) and absence of any hope for humanity (Emperor) the way you showed our world full of people who actually don't even think of those things (any other person throughout the game as a representation of 70% if not more of human population who only care about their personal things and people) And that final choice of either stooping down to the level of those people and living a "normal" life with your wife, or going out with hope for better future for better humans and following those hopeful ideals like those of star...

Yes, it's an FTL clone. It's also well done, polished, addictive, and with its own updates to the formula. Starts out seemingly easy, but then gets just as tough as FTL on you. Good job.

I really enjoy the emerging narrative and the combat is interesting so far. Definitely takes from FTL and other roguelites but it has something special of its own. My only gripe is that I find the runs are slightly longer for a roguelike than I personally like.

A fun sci-fi game that is like FTL in terms of you are running from an overwhelming force and must choose to jump to locations to loot resources to progress to beating a boss at the end. Its really fun in my opinion and I. AM. IN. LOVE! with the pixel art and the theme of the game. Its may not be as good at FTL in terms of game-play if the combat isn't your style but I LOVED the story and aesthetic of the whole game. Really kept me engaged. Only downside is the endings are a little.. lackluster? They are pretty open ended. My only wish is they had more cinematic at the end because I love the look and story of the game

Great story and writing. Amazing bit art but also good animation I love the gameplay the most. The only downside is the game is kinda hard to learn. Hard to get started with. Took me about 3-4 deaths on Hard
