Control starts off strong. The atmosphere is gripping, the gameplay mechanics are solid, and the story, confusing as it may be, pulls you in. But the deeper I got into it, the more my enjoyment unraveled, all because of one glaring issue >>> the map and navigation system. <<< The map is just bad. I’m honestly shocked the developers let it ship in this state. What could have been a 10 out of 10 experience turned into a frustrating mess. Every time I opened the map, I ended up more confused than before. It’s not just unhelpful, it actively makes the game harder to enjoy. The combat is fun, and the world is rich with mystery, which I loved. But when the main tool meant to guide you through that world feels broken, it drags everything else down with it. Navigating the Oldest House shouldn’t feel like guesswork, for the exception of the maze part of the game. I finished the game out of pride, not joy. I had already put in over nine hours, and knowing I was close to the end, I...

Control Ultimate Edition is a third-person action-adventure game developed by Remedy Entertainment. Players take on the role of Jesse Faden, who arrives at the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) in search of answers about her past. The FBC is a secret agency that studies and contains paranormal phenomena. The game is known for its unique setting, supernatural abilities, and mind-bending narrative. The Ultimate Edition includes the base game and all released DLCs, "The Foundation" and "AWE" (Alan Wake Expansion), offering a complete experience. The gameplay focuses on exploration, combat using a transforming Service Weapon and supernatural abilities like telekinesis and levitation, and solving environmental puzzles. The game's atmosphere is heavily influenced by brutalist architecture and a sense of cosmic horror. The narrative is non-linear and often cryptic, requiring players to piece together the story through found documents, audio logs, and environmental clues. The game has been pra...

I have been sooooo excited to play this game for half a decade. I waited until i had a good graphics card, waited until i got a QD-OLED monitor for truly infinite contrast, and finally played it. The environments are amazing. I love brutalism and every single area in this game was eye candy. I loved hunting down the lore collectibles and reading about all the crazy things the bureau has dealt with, adapting to the motel and making the firewalls included, all written in office bureaucratic language, i love it. I really enjoyed the writing of the story and characters, really enjoyed the main character and how she fit into the story of the game. I wish this was a survival horror game. The huge, imposing brutalist shapes combined with such excellent lighting would have been AMAZING for a survival horror, especially with the lore of the oldest house, and the scp-elements living in it. Unfortunately, It is an action game. It took me maybe 15 hours to beat the main game. It was a lot sh...

This supernatural sci-fi thriller is the game that has surprised me the most in recent years. It is a work of art. I wanted to try this game ever since it came out, but the price and the fact that I heard it was full of puzzles kept me away. But I recently got it on sale for 3 bucks and it turned out to be one of my best purchases on Steam. It was weird in the start, the story was confusing and I didn’t really know what I was supposed to do, but as I got further into the game, the gameplay really started growing on me and I ended up enjoying both the gameplay and the story a lot by the end. If you have played Alan Wake, you will probably realize that these two games feel similar in some way, at least I did. The physics, movement and in some ways also the effects they used made me think of Alan Wake even before I knew it was made by the same devs. The missions and map layout however reminded me a lot of Alien Isolation. They play very similar, with you being placed in a smaller en...

TL:DR; A must play for SCP fans. mostly gets by on brilliant visuals, atmosphere and theme. Gameplay mechanics sub-par. Still bugs to be found. Intrusive ones. If you're an SCP or X-Files fan, this game does a wonderful job at immersing you in a similar world. I think this is probably the best SCP-proxy game we'll ever get for fitting the vibes of that work. The best parts of the game are exploring the Oldest House, interacting with the weird anomaly's and seeing the quite extensive damage systems interact with environment. I don't think I've seen quite so appealing brutalism office destruction before. The worst parts are elements of the combat being a little too simple and repetitive -even the psychic powers are a little dull sans their visual spectacle- and the main character not having much character at all. She's here to be the new boss, because of anomalous reasons. The old boss is dead, because of anomalous reasons. She has history with the anomalous, and that's why shes here....

Metacritc shows the usual disparity between user and review scores. On this occasion I'd say the review scores are about right. It's a solid 85% from me anyway. The biggest fault is the black screen which will momentarily flicker in and out at some locations. It seems to be a fault with the game struggling to correctly position the floating camera. This should really have been fixed by now. It's not every location that does this but you will notice it. The other negative is the janky menu system. It doesn't look like this was thoroughly play tested. It's not broken just a bit flawed. The pluses though are many. If you like exploration with the odd puzzle to solve then this will be for you. Plenty of combat and numerous scattered files and media to keep you updated on the story.

First playthrough review time. Control is a third-person action game set in a large government building where unusual things are happening. The place is locked down, and something unknown is spreading inside. As the player moves through the building, they come across unusual rooms, shifting walls, and hidden areas. The layout changes often, so getting around takes attention and care. The setting is designed to keep the player guessing, with areas that never quite stay the same. Combat is a major part of the game. The player uses both weapons and special powers to fight. These powers allow them to use the space around them, like throwing objects or blocking attacks. Each battle depends a lot on where you are and what is around you. Enemies act in different ways, and the player needs to respond with various tactics. Weapons can change shape, and powers can be improved. This helps keep the action from becoming too repetitive, as each fight may need a new approach. Overall, Contro...

completely unplayable. the amount of hoops i'm having to jump through just to get the game to run is legitimately insane. massive amounts of stuttering for no discernible reason that you have to frame cap your game at 90 and disable options in your bios AND force the game to run on DX11 to fix, shader bugs that engulf your entire screen in black so you literally can't see a thing, crashing to desktop on more occasions than I can count to name a few. This game is 5 years old yet none of these seem to have been fixed seeing as 5 year old threads discussing the issue are still active to this day. Avoid if you value your sanity.
