I've been playing this game the last couple days and have sadly found myself frustrated rather than wanting more. The items are good and the replayability is there but there are just too many little things that ruin the experience. To cite a few examples of what I'm referring to: There is no indication for which bullets melee attacks can deflect or destroy, most of the shots are red and half the time you can hit them half the time you cant. The hitboxes are a bit off in some places and I find the enemies somewhat hard to see in certain instances. Shooting up and down can occasionally be problematic as the gun switches from your left to right and a lot of the time in tight areas will just end up shooting the wall. The ice level has a neat gimmick where you shoot out the bits of snow to uncover the level, however it seems to break after destroying a certain amount and then will only destroy the texture for the snow and leave the hitbox and collision behind (quitting and then continui...

I bought this game to support the developer after they released it's source code online. But After both playing it & reading the developers comments on why they were releasing the source code, it is clear they gave up on the game & didn't put any effort into testing or polish. The difficulty is all over the place with some rooms being too easy & enemies ignoring you all together to suddenly having a room full of enemies that chase you down & a floor covered in spiked traps. Combat is based around the cursor, but there are no settings allowing the player to adjust it's sensitivity or to change to a none cursor style of combat. The scene is also too cluttered. Props that don't even do anything & can't interact with stand out just as much as the enemies do, if not more. Guns have camera shake that will give you a headache... Some other items are also not tested properly as there hitbox does not match there animation.

Ugh. So close. This game could be great, but the hit boxes are off and the game's mechanics (everything from what items do to what the hell "scourge" is) are completely hidden from the player. Even after you pick up an item, the only tooltip you may get is, "Do Not Hesistate." Um, ok...I won't...whatever that's supposed to mean. A game like this needs precision and clarity. My sword needs to swing where the image says it swings...not a dozen pixels longer than it shows. An enemy's hotbox needs to be exactly where the enemy's image ends. Thus far (a week after full release), this game is for too inexact for its own genre.

Please just play any other Roguelike out there. I haven't enjoyed this game at all during the 6+ hours I've played it. The game is visually noisy which makes just seeing the enemies hard, the first two floors are the worst in this department. Just please don't buy this, it was a waste of my time and money.

This game is a great addition to your rogue-like collection. You could compare it to games like The Binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon. The setting is not outstanding, and the game’s sense of humor is somewhat awkward (it’s a game of a different generation compared to something like Nethack , which subtly ridicules popular fantasy and includes references to all kinds of fantasy literature and folklore—because it was born in a completely different environment.) Action mechanics are essentially just slashing and shooting, though the game tends to prefer shooting as many of the power-ups you collect early in the game only affect your projectiles. Burning Knight maintains a good game-play loop and manages to engage the player; you are likely to sink many hours into this game. It’s overall a very decent action rogue-like. Also I must say about the level of care and engagement the developer has with his community!

Great mix of Enter the Gungeon, Binding of Isaak and, I'd say, Nuclear Throne. Very solid effort and worth the money, but I'm coming to realization that these types of games aren't for me:)

Inspired (sometimes a little *too* inspired) by predecessors like Binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon, Burning Knight has the core of a good game with a lot to like, but is absolutely ruinously lousy with bugs and design issues. When most itemization decisions are driven by whether or not the build will eventually cause the game to freeze even on a high-end system, something is badly amiss. Visual clarity is a disaster; visual noise is everywhere, the lighting system adds further unclarity, and enemy bullets and effects can be of any color even when they're not completely obscured by overlapping effects. Core mechanics are smooth and functional, except when they aren't; inexplicably getting caught on a wall when attempting to move or dodge parallel to it is a frequent occurrence. Sometimes things just break in inexplicable ways; a player can die to their own pets/orbitals or even their own sword-attacks and never have any idea why it happened that run and not on the others. But wor...

Having a blast so far. Really nice and refreshing art style. The game seems to know what it is, if that makes any sense. I just wish the game was a little more clear on mechanics and controls. I feel if I hadn't previously played EtG, I would've been a bit confused.

Too difficult, too many effects on the screen, it's hard to hit. Game break HDR on my monitor.
A bug-filled mess with future potential
I'm not going to go into great detail other than to point out the current reasons you should not buy. However, I can see that this game is currently undergoing development and I've already seen a patch, so I have reasonable confidence they'll get fixed and I plan to come back and update this review at that time. I like this game enough to do that, but for now I can't deal with the bugs and I have to stop playing. Major, major collision problems. Hitboxes are wack and the collision code is seriously messed up. Sometimes you'll "collide" with something that used-to be there, other times you'll get hit by something that doesn't exist. Sometimes you die from shooting a bomb box from across the room. It's insane, and in a game where health regeneration is incredibly scarce and preserving your meager hit points is essential to surviving. Broken dungeon maze generation. The game will literally generate dungeons that are ...
