I'm a pilot, but not in the military. I did get a chance once to fly a Marine Corp FA-18 simulator. If you want about 2 hours of fun with this for $20, you will be satisfied. However, if you want a realistic flight simulator, this isn't it. While I did like the ability to flip switches and start the engine, systems, etc.. The hud display was not very readable. I could lean in close and see the speed was around 100kts (120 mph) and that looked right when flying near the island. The altimeter was a jumble of numbers, not legible. Of course F-18s typically fly in the 400kts+ realm. I don't know what aircraft profile the developer used but I'll tell you this, it isn't an F-18. The roll rate is ridiculously slow, like a T6 Texan. Try to do an aileron roll and see what happens. Even in full burners, you can't do vertical very long before the aircraft stalls. The air to air (air combat maneuvering) enemy aircraft/targets move in up to 90 degree turns physically impossible, which detracts from...

About This Game
Flying Aces - Navy Pilot Simulator is a story based virtual reality (Oculus and HTC Vive) experience unlike any other. You will experience what it’s like to train to become a navy pilot. As gamers, we search for experiences that aren’t possible in our daily lives. With Navy Pilot Simulator, we’re able to bring the armchair pilot into the cockpit of a fighter jet. We have long wanted to develop a true pilot simulator, but this wasn’t possible until the advent of virtual reality. The Oculus Rift allows us to offer an experience that previous generations of hardware aren’t capable of. Our goal is to create a true to life experience as opposed to a game.
The Game
Flying Aces - Navy Pilot Simulator is a story driven pilot experience. Conquering the game will require a skillset of hand eye coordination, decision making, and a tough stomach. You start out as a low ranked Ensign (below a junior lieutenant) tasked with learning the functionality of the F-18 Super Hornet. As you progress through the ranks, the missions become more challenging. The experience takes you through basic take off missions, missile target practice, harrowing carrier landings in storm conditions, and beyond.

User Reviews
This review is my initial thought of the EARLY ACCESS game. I have played the tutorial missions and two main missions. I can see where this game wants to be and commend them Devs for their application of game physics. However, there are some improvements that need to be made (see later). Unfortunatly, in it's current state, this game is very simplistic in terms of everything, expect the stick/throttle controls. In it's current state it is not worth the money, but with improvements it has such high potential!! Which is why I bought it early to suggest improvements from a consumer's point of view. DEVs, please take my critism constructively because this game has serious potential and I am so excited to see what you guys do! I have read people have had some issues with the seating location in the cockpit - I have NOT had this problem at all! Suggested Improvements: 1) Add rudder control, maybe the use of the joystick left/right could do? This will help for fine tuning the carrier appr...
SImilar issues to the other review. View is impossibly far away and drags quite a bit on my system. While I certainly don't have the newest possible rig, it's enough to play any other game VR or not that I want to play including Fallout 4 VR with no lag. If you really want the game, then buy it now for the 25% off from retail and wait 8-12 weeks and hope the developer actually finishes the game but almost all of us can point to at least one game where taking the risk means the game never getting finished. Otherwise, I'd wait. For my part, I'm considering my $20 lost. Also, no native HTC Support. They are talking about a port in 4+ weeks but that's around the time of full release when they will be working on trying to work out the bugs for release.. and being just a port means it will never run as well as on Oculus... so if you have HTC might want to hold off until well after release to see if it's even worth your time.
A few quirks (which is to be expected of a pre-release) but I found it to be very immersive and fun! I was playing the game seated a few meters back from my desk and everything worked great. The first tutorial popup of the game tells you to press the right thumb-stick button to reset the VR view. I found that lowering my graphics settings in the main menu gave me a silky smooth frame rate ( using a GTX 1070 ). I hope the developers continue to improve this over time. The game has a lot of promise!
It sucks don't get it
I really wish the developers would play their own games. There is one really huge issue that makes this game very difficult and if the developers had played this game it would be fixed in a second. When it comes time to take control of the main flight stick you need to pull and hold the trigger on the VR controllers to grab hold of it. Doing this for a long periods of time your trigger finger gets quite tired. Then when you need to shoot something, you have to awkwardly squeeze the the side button while still holding the trigger in. Its just hopeless and really spoils the game. Should be squeeze the side buttons to grab and release the flight stick then you are free use the trigger to fire a weapon. The flight stick dynamics is really quite bad too, I found myself ready to throw my controllers because the stick would not go the way that feels natural. As is becoming quite common these days, great idea, just needs a bit of common sense and the developers to get on a use their own p...
I've given this game a little bit of play after waiting for it's release for a while. Graphically it's pretty good. Controls are decent. It's fun to play and fly around it. It has room for improvement but I like it. I don't play a lot of VR games but I've been having a lot of fun with this. The missions are fun and I see it going somewhere for people who like airplane games. Game- 8/10 Graphics- 8.5/10 Controls- 7/10
Of all the flight sims I've played, which goes back to Commodore 64... this one has potential to be great. VR controls are a bit wonky.. but that aside game play is good... the graphics aren't horrible (with time I'm sure that could improve). so overall its a good game that just needs some polishing up on a few things (that i noticed so far). I get making games like this in VR is difficult to do so I'm not ripping on the devs over it, instead offer constructive criticism. I do like the game and hope to see it become more.
bad
Awful. The controllers are so wack. Why does it vibrate when my hands are anywhere near the throttle? Why does the plane sometimes take off and other times won't? Why does the throttle not actually work when I hold it? This game is such trash. I should have listened to everyone else saying that.
