Replaying in 2025, and I realise what a damn shame it is that this series rebooted into the Survivor timeline. Underworld is Crystal Dynamics finding their feet after the misfire of Legend, and the lessons of Anniversary. This is a unique take on the formula that really works - the whole game is based around large puzzle box tombs which feel quite freeform, and there's nothing else like it in the series. If only CD had iterated on this rather than rebooting, they could have made some excellent followups. A bit of jank after all these years sure, but definitely worth your time.

this is still in the conversation for my favorite game in this whole series, the game has issues and the camera on pc is weird (i genuinely don't remember it being this bad on 360 when i played it way back) but the settings and level design honestly feel so good to navigate that it puts it a cut above so many games in this series imo, it's great to run through these levels, through and through, Lara's design is my favorite in the series here, with a wide variety of outfits to run all tailored for the different settings, the sound design is honestly still PHENOMENAL and i'd argue might still be the best if not one of the best in the series, even down to little details like the metal bits of Lara's outfit jingling as she jumps or runs, the belt and holsters shuffling and making noises as she climbs up things, the ambient sounds in the tombs that build so much atmosphere, the absolutely STELLAR soundtrack that adds so much life to each puzzle and tomb, etc. Keeley Hawes is also absolutely...

The second Legend series entry I have finished and I must concede that I have mixed feelings on this one. The graphics were beautiful and the cutscenes were enjoyable, though the overall gameplay had me confused and, at certain points, frustrated. Ledge magnetization was inconsistent and caused me to die multiple times, and, while the open areas were a nice return to form, they were very labyrinthine at times. The puzzles were...mixed. The final showdown was fantastic, but the sheer amount of tedium I had to put up with just to get to that point made it feel more relieving than climactic.
