Mediocre
Etherborn is a 3d gravity based platformer. I’ll just get straight to the point. I got it for around 4 euros during a summer sale, and I don’t think it’s worth its full price for the type of content you get. The gameplay itself is okay. Gravity/perspective switching platformer action is a type of puzzling I typically enjoy. NG+ felt too similar to the standard run to me and I did not appreciate some of the orbs being fully out of sight in bushes. The areas themselves were well designed. It ramps up in difficulty with each level, but not in an annoying way. The art and music are nice. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3559730842 The reason why I chose to not recommend the game is mostly due to its “story”. The ramblings of the voice you hear during cutscenes is so incoherent. It’s basically saying “Humanity is bad” while trying to sound philosophical and existential about it. It became annoying really fast. I looked online to s...

About the Game
Etherborn is an elegant leap in the gravity-puzzle genre; an environmental puzzle platformer built on exploring and understanding gravity-shifting structures. You are a voiceless being that has just been born into a world where a bodiless voice awaits your arrival. As your first thoughts emerge, you realise your journey has just begun. You must reach this ethereal voice to fully understand your own existence.
In this world, the laws of physics behave in a way that will bend your imagination. You experience gravity perpendicular to the surface you are standing on, allowing for creative exploration possibilities in environments carefully crafted as navigation-based puzzles.
Travel through beautiful and exotic sceneries where each level is an organic puzzle that you need to explore, manipulate and shift your gravity on in order to decipher the way forward.
This game is best played with a gamepad.

The concept is great, the presentation is spot on (if a bit pretentious) and the voice acting / writing really get across the quite serious intent behind this game - essentially a retelling of a life-changing acid experience in video game form. But it's everything else that leads to the game just falling apart. The camera absolutely blows, with very restrictive controls. When you're dealing with trying to work out which direction is up or down in terms of gravity and the camera isn't even allowing you to see your player character, that's just straight-up bad design. The controls feel okay for the most part, but there's some platforming elements and just doesn't work right for those. It controls a bit like a walking sim, and imagine platforming with that sort of analogue control. Etherborn thinks it's relaxing, but due to everything listed above, it's anything but. I'm sure it's satisfying to figure out the later puzzles and stuff, but there's plenty of other relaxing indie puzzle gam...
