About This Game

Elea: Memories

Elea is a surreal sci-fi adventure game in which you play as space scientist Elea. In 2073, Earth was struck by a horrid childhood disease and Elea’s husband Ethan joined an expedition to colonize Solace, a habitable exoplanet, to save humanity from extinction. The interstellar ship he was on, Pilgrimage, went radio silent shortly after it reached planet Solace. Thirteen years later, Elea joins a recovery mission to investigate the faith of the expedition. What follows is a wondrous journey through space.

Features

  • Unravel a rich, touching story inspired by books of classic sci-fi writers
  • Submerge yourself in amazing graphics powered by Unreal Engine 4
  • Discover gorgeous space environments, spectacular vistas and detailed interiors
  • Expect the unexpected on this curious journey through outer space

Story

Elea is a game that takes the player on the deeply personal journey of a woman, whose life is marked by loss, grief and self-accusation in the aftermath of a global pandemic that turned her youngest boy into a raging psychopath. Luckily, an Earth-like exoplanet within an achievable distance from the Solar system had been recently discovered. Pooling volunteers from around the globe, a first-of-a-kind interstellar spacecraft was built and sent to colonize the yet unexplored planet. The gargantuan ship was named Pilgrimage, embodying the hopes of all of the humanity. To everyone’s dismay, shortly after a successful arrival, the Pilgrimage went on total radio silence. What caused it remains a mystery.

13 years later, research starship Recovery has arrived on site to investigate the fate of the expedition. The player takes the role of the space scientist River Elea Catherine Jones. She is driven above all by a personal goal – to find her husband Ethan, who occupied a prominent position on the Pilgrimage’s scientific crew. By putting the character up against events and phenomena which are beyond human grasp, the game aims to defy the conventional notions of personal accountability, choice and meaning of life. It is a story about our fragility as a species, about finding solace through surrender.

This game is really not for everyone - if you appreciate great visuals and a bit of digging to understand the compelling story, then it's for you. Main complaints from reviews so far seem to be slow movement at the beginning and the psychedelic art, which I personally don't have a problem with. The sound design and music score are lovely, the visuals are with awesome quality and the voice acting is fine. If you are into slow-paced story games, this is a great one for you!

ELEA obviously is a walking simulator game in which you relive the experiences of the main heroine in her home and on a space station. The beginning is a bit slow, but later in the game the pacing is fine. One negative thing is the length of only 2 hours. Though for me it was worth the playthrough. Pros - A great story – you have to invest time in reading notes to fully understand what is going on. - Beautiful visuals and lighting. - Good sound design. Cons - Slow walking at the beginning of the game. - A frustrating cliffhanger ending. - Short – you can finish it for about 2 hours.

Elea has a fun sci-fi story premise. The “childhood disease” discussed in the game summary isn’t a disease like you think of illnesses, and brings up all sorts of twisted images, including the quizzes about how many 5-year olds you can take in a fight. You can read the game summary and watch the trailer for other story details. The graphics are very nice and controls are good and easy to use for navigation. So what’s the problem? In my opinion, the developers couldn’t decide what kind of game they wanted to make, so gameplay is all over the place and it doesn’t do any genre exceptionally well. Walking sim? That would be boring, right? So the devs make you explore in the dark with the worst flashlight ever. Technology in flashlights apparently have degenerated greatly in the future. This aspect made me just want to get it over with rather than explore the house (say goodbye to those achievements). Once you’re aboard ship you have lights, but you can only g...

I found out about ELEA from an interview with the two developers behind the game on Epic’s page and intrigued bought it as a support. It’s an interactive adventure/walking simulator in the good traditions of What Remains of Edith Finch and Tacoma. As a similar game it is well crafted with very immersive SciFi visuals and environment, accompanied by a good story. The two biggest concerns for me are the low polygon human characters and the unprofessional voice acting of the NPCs, which a bit break my immersion. But I can’t complain much, because of the small dev team and probably scarce resources behind this indie project. As I mentioned before – the visuals are very well polished, as well as the lighting and the sound design. The “not for everybody” tag comes in mind when I remeber the psychedelic parts of the journey, but personally I liked them. As I can see from other reviews, people either like these games or they don’t. They commonly complain that games in this genre ...

ELEA is a very genuine hallucinogenic experience - in the veins of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter and Everybody's Gone To The Rapture. I like the narrative, the setting and the visuals (very similar to those in Mass Effect and Alien Isolation). The soundtrack is also very impressing - at some places, it sounded like an AAA game. The greatest frustration for me is the quirky control with mouse and keyboard - the game is obviously designed with a gamepad in mind. Overall it's a satisfying experience for 5 bucks.

Finally, a different kind of sci-fi. This game is crazy. CRAZY! The first hour is little confusing with all the jumps between "dimensions", but overall the story is quite intriguing. Hope for a little more answers in the second episode. I think the developers are clearly inspired by 2001 a space odyssey which is actually not a bad thing. How many episodes are planned for Elea? The visuals are amazing and I am quite happy with the diversity of the locations. I didn't expect this from a game that cost me just a five buck. The music is very atmospheric and overall the audio design is superb. Voice acting is also done pretty well for the main characters. Elea's character in particular. However, some of the NPC's sound a little strange. My main issues with the episode are connected to the pacing of the game. Elea is moving tooooooo slow. I understand her condition in the beginning, but a little more speed will help the overall flow of the game. And why I can't run in the later stages o...

If you like acid trips and atmospheric gameplay this is the game for you! "Probably should stay away if you have some sort of Photosensitive epilepsy because it can get really crazy." All in all, the latest update fixed all problems I had with the game and I can finally recommend it. I'm looking forward to Episode 2. Also, I should mention you have to use some brain power. You might think you get stuck, but you are just not thinking hard enough.

Mir hat ELEA ziemlich gefallen und es hat mich sehr berührt - es ist leider kurz. Es ist schon irgendwie ein langsames und leises spiel - wer also action, grusel oder sowas sucht, lieber nicht dieses spiel.
