Attention Muv-Luv fans: humanity is in real trouble. The BETA are invading, and Yuuko Kouzuki needs your help for Alternative IV to succeed. To make this possible, she needs to fit fifteen billion semiconductors into the palm of her hand and complete the 00 Unit. To do this, she’s going to need some TSFs, a couple of XG-70s, and a new Lancia Stratos. All she requires, therefore, is your credit card number, the three digits on the back, and the expiration date. But you’ve got to hurry—so that Takeru can get back to the Lacrosse arc. Come on!

About the Game

The Muv-Luv series is an epic saga told in three parts: Muv-Luv Extra, Muv-Luv Unlimited, and Muv-Luv Alternative. What begins as a tongue-in-cheek romantic comedy ultimately transforms into an action-packed thrill ride in a war-torn alternate reality, and it’s this drastic-yet-methodical genre twist that makes the final chapter the most highly-revered visual novel of all time. This is a story that will plant seeds in your brain early in the first act that you won’t even notice until they sprout in the third for maximum narrative payoff and crushing emotional impact. Don’t fall for Extra’s cutesy exterior. This series ventures into some of the darkest thematic territory you’ll ever see, and when the final curtain closes, you’ll likely need a forklift to pick your jaw up off the floor. Make no mistake: this is a story that will challenge you in ways few works of fiction dare attempt, and an emotional tour de force unlike any other.
This game contains the first two arcs: Extra, and Unlimited.
The final arc, Muv-Luv Alternative is the story’s massive climax, and is nearly the size of the first two combined.
Muv-Luv Extra
Takeru is your average unassuming high school senior whose entire world gets turned upside down one morning when he awakens to find himself in bed with the heiress to one of the world’s largest international conglomerates. She calls herself Meiya, and - despite never having met him before - she insists that the two of them are destined for one another. This comes much to the chagrin of his childhood friend Sumika, the girl next door who’s always had feelings for him, who realizes that if she doesn’t act fast, she might just lose him forever. All of which begs the question: just who is Meiya? And do his feelings for Sumika run deeper than he thought? In the end, he’ll need to decide between the girl who’s been with him through thick and thin, or the stranger who claims they’re bound together by fate.
But that’s only one side of the story.
Muv-Luv Unlimited
Just as the page turns on Takeru’s happily ever after, he awakens one morning in a world not his own. An alternate timeline, humanity on the brink of extinction. A world infested by alien invaders locked in a war that’s been raging on for decades. And yet, all the set pieces are the same - his house is still here, albeit dilapidated and barely standing. His school is still here, though it’s now a military academy. And even though they don’t recognize him, all his friends are here too… with one exception.
Was this all just a dream? Or was the world he thought he knew really a dream all along?

There goes the story of Muv-Luv, where if you laugh at the redhead you go to hell You read the first game and it's like, there's this guy who's surrounded by mentally ill women that all are the setup for hilarious jokes and you do each one of their routes, realizing that they're actually quite lovely And then you do the second game, Extra, everyone who lives in Eurasia is DEAD and Japan barely survives because it's an island and your failure of a protagonist has to somehow come to terms with fighting aliens in huge mechs Thankfully, he knows how to wave-dash with a mech, so he's not that worthless Alternative is the sequel of Extra kinda a must read/buy if you want the full experience, it's great, I reckon it's fair to see it as the proper end of the series too although there's still more to the universe if you care as well as a bunch of side stories and an extra epilogue as a standalone game exists if you read everything up to Alternative Might have a patch but I don't really care...
It's a slow burn but it's definitely worth it. Extra can drag on a bit but I really do think it's worth it if it clicks with you, the payoff as you go to Alternative has a great impact in my opinion.

EPIC 11/10
Muv-Luv is actually two novels in one: Muv-Luv Extra and Muv-Luv Unlimited. Both serve to set up the events that take place in the sequel Muv-Luv Alternative. As an eroge series there are patches to restore the 18+ content for both Extra and Unlimited, almost all of the H-scenes are quite saccharine and fairly tasteful. There are some light elements of fanservice in both novels but its fairly tame for a 18+ VN.
Muv-Luv Extra
Muv-Luv Extra is a fairly standard slice of life rom-com. Going into the series I had heard that Extra was something that you have to suffer through to get to the actual good stuff in Alternative. I'm happy to report that this isn't true so long as you don't actively dislike SoL or rom-coms. The story, while a bit toothless and lacking in the heavy drama many other visual novels are known for, is lively and mostly pretty lighthearted. The characters are great, very endearing and fun. The comedy, while not often laugh out loud funny, is often enough ...
It is needed to play muv luv alternative. It's very good in my opinion, but you should like romcom VNs if you want to enjoy this.
This is an enjoyable visual novel series that starts off with cute and beautiful girls that gets darker and more disturbing with the following subsequent entries. This series certainly ended up surprising me with how deep and mature the themes get. Highly recommend. Probably the best visual novel (series) I've read since Fate/Stay Night, and I would highly recommend checking out the Remaster of that as well. You definitely should read it to really get the nuances of the original portrayal of the characters.
