Overall feedback: The graphics are pretty old school and initially were offputting but I definitely recommend you give the game a chance. There are tons of really good mechanics here woven into the game. It has some dwarf fortress level stuff going on. Just to give some examples of what you can do:Contract lycanthropy, Become a lich, Become a vampire, build a city, save a princess, woo a princess, have babies, hire workers/guards, form a party in a bar, fight people in bars, go questing with friends, siege a city, craft equipment, have a priest bless equipment, engrave a name onto your equipment, build a train station that collects resources from workers and runs on water, create portals to warp around, train up combat skills, adopt an alias you use to steal from and kill people in disguise, participate in raids, kill a king, steal a kingdom, lock and unlock doors, invite other players to your kingdom, learn magic words that you can mix and match to create unique spell effects, res...

About This Game
But his day did come eventually. He fell during the Battle of Blackshield. He died fighting beside the great King Blackshield himself. Fighting against the Dark Remnant's undead army.
After the battle, his body was returned to his home kingdom. It was laid to rest in a grand mausoleum with his powerful sword. But this was not to be the end of the story for his sword.
Rumors have begun to be spread as of late. Sir Weryn's magic sword has been said to have returned from the grave. But it is no longer the righteous blade it once was. It is now said to be cursed with evil. Death eventually comes to anyone that attempts to use it.
Several evil factions are seeking the blade. And unfortunately for you, this cursed sword seems to have fallen into your possession.
Inspired by old-school rogue-like and RPGs, DarkDIRE uses simple graphics/animation to build a living world. Explore endless procedurally generated kingdoms and dungeons. Gain loot by raiding enemy kingdoms. Sell it to become rich and powerful. Maybe even powerful enough to rule your own kingdom.
DarkDIRE has rich character development. Choose any four of the fifty-plus skills to build any type of character you can imagine. Craft armor and weapons specifically tailored for your character.
No save games. Your world is shared across all your characters. Also, adventure with a friend or enemy. Other players on your local network can connect and share your game world at any time.

I love this game, it's a lot more complex than first meets the eye, the world feels alive and it's fun to play with friends. There's an incredible amount of game here for the price, you really can't go wrong. It has also recently received a massive update which has significantly improved the game. DarkDIRE is not without flaws, but there is an awesome game here if you can look past them. Some of the highlights: * Great class and skill system with a huge amount of variety. * The levelling system is well thought out and lets you get into the game quickly with no grind. * Massive world to explore, feels immersive. * Great combat system, epic battles and just the right combination of player skill + stats required. It takes a bit getting used to at first as it's not as fast as other real time RPGs, but this is actually one of its strengths. Battles feel very satisfying. * Piles and piles of loot, with a great loot generation system. * I've been playing for a good number of hours already...
Dear developer, I'm sorry to leave a negative review. I know how hard it is to make games and I wish you all he best with this one. Unfortunately the controls to the game and interface in general are a bit too unintuitive and raw for me. Problems I had: 1. WSAD to move doesn't always work. I was unable to reliably turn to face opponents in battle. Sometimes I find myself stuck getting hit in the back and I must spam WSAD until it unsticks itself and I turn around to fight again, but the enemy moves behind me and I'm stuck yet again. 2. Using the END key to attack is strange and combined with the WSAD problem I found myself unable to do well in combat. 3. F3 to open inventory is also strange (remapping keys does seem possible though) Generally speaking I just feel lost when I play this game due to the controls and interface. I would like to enjoy this game but at the moment I can't. I won't refund. I'd like to check back in the future and see if it's any better.
I wasn't sure about this game at first, but it was given to me by a friend. So I tried it out and found out that it was a lot more involved than I perceived on first glance. For those who are more interested in character development and not just hack and slash or button mashing games, I think Darkdire deserves a play.
So i have been playing this game with a friend for 2.1 hours now and must say i enjoyed it. worth the €3.39 for sure :) as of the time of writing this review it is 15 % off wich saves me the full 60 cents XD would be worth the full price of 3.99 for sure :D EDIT: after 5 hours in game i must say that i am constantly being suprised with features i didnt expect in game. ranging from gravedigging(aka treasure hunting) to unboxing of loot with a siege weapon and traveling thru signposts. I am more then happy with my purchase. For new players i would say that at first the graphics seem offputting but after a while you get used to it. For me personally i enjoy the zelda/pokemonRSE-like perspective allot. I love the mechanics and ideas in this game.
DarkDIRE wowed me. A couple months ago, I was browsing the store and ran across this game. As I was reading the description on the store page, I was really loving the features it listed, and for a couple dollars I thought I'd take a shot on it. I was definitely hesitant about the graphical style, even being a jaded old gamer who usually isn't worried about graphics if the gameplay is great. I'll be honest. It didn't click with me and I actually refunded it. Fast forward to today. I was yet again looking through the store and yet again ran across DarkDIRE. I thought that I would give it another shot and this time....it wowed me. If you can get past the obtuse UI and the graphics, and let yourself become immersed, it honestly ends up feeling like a living world that you get lost in exploring, and you become heavily invested in your character. I absolutely am a convert. This game is amazing. GIve it a shot.
I want to play it and like it, but ti need so much work. I'm fine with the graphics and a bit of jank, but the UI and UX is terrible. An example, no clear button to switch between inventory and equipment. I tried playing, unequipped an item by accident and couldn't re-equip it. It looks like a great idea, but I cannot recommend it in it's current state. Also releasing DLC seems a bit premature.
It is a shame that this game hasn't blown up bigger with the roguelike or RPG communities. I would say this is a excellent title for those players that enjoy things like Caves of Qud or Dwarf Fortress. I have only scratched the surface here, but i'm already impressed and overwhelmed equally. Good stuff is here hidden under a minimalist graphic overlay (which i actually have grown to love), and for the low price point you don't have much to lose by supporting this title. Give it a chance, darkDIRE is a game for those that desire more from RPG's.
Probably one of the best roguelikes ive ever played, its packed with tons of content including conquering kingdoms and becoming their monarch and managing em, making your own undead army as a necromancer while also having decent crafting skills and a plethora of other skills including multiple magic, sorcery and occult/religious skills in an open world setting full of kingdoms to harrass and conquer, dungeons and other points of interest to explore. Totally worth the very low price of 3.29 euros and the demo offers access to the full game with only limitation i found so far being that your characters cant go above rank 1 in demo version.
From what I can tell, very advanced game with simple GFX.
